Main Purpose of the Role The Manufacturing Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement of the manufacturing processes. The primary purpose of the role is to design, implement, and refine production methods for the product portfolio, optimizing workflow and minimizing waste while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. The role serves as a bridge between design, production, and maintenance teams, ensuring that products are manufactured effectively, cost-efficiently, and to specification. Additionally, the Manufacturing Engineer will drive innovation and process improvements to support the company's commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

Scope of the Role The manufacturing engineer focuses on designing, implementing and improving manufacturing processes to ensure efficient, high quality and cost effective production.

Primary Objectives

Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for steel doorsets. Evaluate and improve production workflows to enhance efficiency and reduce waste. Collaborate with design and production teams to ensure manufacturability and quality of products. Monitor and maintain production equipment to ensure peak performance and minimize downtime. Support the introduction of new products and technologies into the manufacturing process. Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for production issues. Prepare and maintain documentation, including work instructions, process maps, and equipment manuals. Promote and enforce health and safety standards within the production environment. Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as lean manufacturing or Six Sigma projects.

Primary Measures of Effectiveness

Equipment Utilisation Rate - Measurement of how effectively machinery is being used during production hours. Cycle Time Reduction - Ability to minimise the time taken to manufacture a steel door without compromising quality. Downtime Reduction - Effectiveness in reducing unplanned machine stoppages and ensuring quick recovery after breakdowns.

Secondary Objectives

Implementation of lean practice - Adoption of practices like 5S and six sigma to improve workflow. Process improvement processes - Improvement of processes to achieve greater efficiencies. Innovation adoption - Adoption of new innovative processes and equipment.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required for Role

Detail-conscious. Ability to take ownership of tasks through to completion. Flexible approach. A good understanding of sheet metal fabrication machinery and production. Strong Knowledge of manufacturing process, equipment and quality control. Ideally experienced in Door Manufacturing. Previous experience of a manufacturing engineer position within a sheet metal environment. Good written and verbal communication. Good planning, able to remain focused and strong organisational skills. Ability to report back to senior management. Able to plan and prioritise own workload. Communicate regularly and effectively with production. Sheet metal Punch/ fold machine experience.
