Our Clients post sits within Design Authority Structures (DAST) section in the SDA In-Service Submarines Platform Engineering Team and plays a fundamental role in engineering and safety decision making by assisting Struct3 on structural and mechanical issues relating to Fasteners, Hatches, LETs and Doors for all in-service submarines. Ensuring in-service submarines remain safe to operate with respect to Structural Strength when at sea, alongside and during docking/undocking evolutions by assessing condition of the Structural elements by assisting Struct3 with ensuring the design intent of fasteners, hatches and LETs structure. Setting Design Authority Requirements (DAR) for surveys, repairs, and concessions within the remit of Structural Strength and for the Struct3 areas of responsibility for maintenance periods carried out on in-service submarines. Assessing OPDEFs for their impact on the Struct3 areas of responsibility and supporting Struct3 to issue DA requirements to address them and guidance to operators to mitigate any risks. Supporting platform surveys at either Clyde or Devonport particularly with regards to HSR surveys and developing new HSR. Developing design changes for secondary structure in conjunction with Struct3 to improve safety or capability when required. Reviewing Design Changes for impact on structural strength in relation to secondary structure and advising Struct3 of any concerns or design challenges.
