You will lead a small team and play a key role in implementing operational improvements, ensuring the smooth flow of materials to meet production demands. Your efforts will be integral to driving operational efficiency, safety, and inventory accuracy within the store and across the site.

Key Responsibilities:

Goods Receiving:

Oversee the receipt of goods into the store, ensuring they are checked against purchase orders and delivery notes. Ensure accurate documentation of goods received and coordinate with the purchasing team to resolve any discrepancies.

Raw Material Handling:

Manage the storage and handling of raw materials, ensuring that materials are stored safely and efficiently, and are easily accessible when needed. Ensure all raw materials are correctly identified and labelled, maintaining a clear and organised inventory system.

Store Management:

Supervise the day-to-day operation of the stores, ensuring that materials are readily available for production. Maintain the cleanliness, organisation, and safety of the storage areas, both indoors and outdoors. Implement and maintain best practices for stock rotation (FIFO - First In, First Out).

Conduct regular cycle counts and support the annual stocktake process to ensure accuracy of stock records.

Transport Management:

Oversee the management of transport for inter-site deliveries and collections, ensuring smooth and timely distribution. Manage a fleet of vehicles, including 7.5-ton trucks and vans, ensuring compliance with transport regulations, maintenance schedules, and insurance requirements. Plan and coordinate daily transport routes, including collections and deliveries to and from different sites.

Lead, motivate, and develop a small team of stores personnel, providing guidance, training, and performance management. Foster a collaborative and safety-conscious team environment, ensuring all staff comply with health and safety regulations.

Yard and Site Transport Management:

Manage the yard area to ensure efficient use of space, maintaining safe traffic flows and ensuring the correct storage of materials and equipment. Oversee site transport activities, including the management of site vehicles and any site-specific transport procedures.

Annual Stocktake:

Coordinate the annual stocktake, ensuring all materials are counted accurately and discrepancies are resolved. Work closely with the finance and production teams to ensure all stock is accounted for and documented correctly.

Objectives:

Inventory Control Measures:

Implement and maintain effective inventory control systems to reduce inventory errors, minimise invoicing queries, and optimise operational efficiency. Transport Efficiency and Compliance:

Enhance transport efficiency, ensuring timely deliveries and compliance with regulations, particularly with regards to fleet management. ERP System Integration:

Play a key role in the introduction and integration of the new ERP system to improve materials handling, stock control, and communication between departments. Safety and Site Transport Performance:

Improve site safety procedures related to materials handling and transport. Ensure all activities meet health and safety standards, including safe vehicle operation and material storage. Production Supply System:

Develop a reliable production supply system that ensures the availability of raw materials precisely when needed, minimising downtime and production delays. Consumables Management:

Ensure that sufficient stock of consumables is maintained to keep pace with an expanding workforce and meet operational needs. Qualifications and Skills:

Proven experience in materials management, stores or warehouse operations, ideally within a manufacturing environment. Strong understanding of inventory management, stock control, and logistics. Experience in managing transport operations, including vehicle fleet management. Previous leadership experience, with the ability to manage, train, and motivate a team. Good knowledge of health and safety regulations in a manufacturing environment. Familiarity with ERP systems and software (experience in implementing an ERP system is a plus). Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with a focus on operational efficiency. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
