Teacher of Spanish (Maternity)
will be the sole teacher of the subject and will be responsible for teaching Spanish in P7-S3 and then at National 4/5 Level in S4, Higher in S5/6. Applicants should be experienced in delivering National 5 and Higher Spanish within Scottish Education and must be registered with the GTCS (this is a statutory requirement). This position is advertised at 35 hours per week. The job also comes with a supervisory role within a boarding house, which involves 4 hours per week (one evening per week) and eight weekend day shifts across the year (14:00 - 22:00). A boarding allowance is paid for this additional role. Job description The duties of all teachers include the following: Teaching assigned classes and having good classroom management. Assisting in the development of the Spanish curriculum. Assessing, tracking/monitoring and reporting. Presentation of pupils for National Qualifications as required. Supporting young people, as part of a team, on Safeguarding and well-being matters. Willingness to contribute to boarding life. This is a Fixed-term Appointment as a Teacher of Spanish in DCS Queen Victoria School, Dunblane. Your responsibilities will be as described in this job advert. The reason why you are appointed for a fixed period is due to a need for maternity cover. This post will therefore begin on your appointment and end 12 months after that date OR will end on 28/02/2026. Person specification Essential Criteria: Leading Learning Knowledge of and experience in applying Curriculum for Excellence principles and purposes. Ability to plan effectively across the Curriculum. Ability to motivate and engage children through stimulating and active learning approaches. Demonstrates sound organisational skills and effective classroom management to support learning. Raising Attainment and Achievement: Demonstrates commitment to raising expectations for children in their attainment. Has current knowledge of national curriculum developments. Demonstrates critical reflection and evaluation of their own practice. Supporting Learners: Demonstrates knowledge and commitment to effective practices to include children and keep them safe. Can demonstrate a range of effective strategies to promote positive behaviour. Qualifications GTCS Standard for Full Registration (or eligible to become so). A teaching qualification (PGCE, PGDE or BEd) in Spanish. Qualified to teach Spanish from S1-S6. Memberships Candidates must be registered as a professional teacher with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS).
