This post provides strong leadership, visible, credible, senior nursing presence accessible to staff, patients, and their families for advice, assistance, and support. The post holder will be accountable for the delivery of optimum quality patient care in their area/s of responsibility, and in line with the ten key matron responsibilities outlined nationally. Supporting and developing the teams across the Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre (BHOC) is critical to excellent standards of care. We are looking for an individual who can support, engage, inspire, and develop the team enabling them to provide the highest quality of care to patients.

The role of the Matron is fundamental to ensuring patients receive safe, high-quality care and a positive patient experience which is responsive to the needs of patients, families, and their carers. We are seeking a senior nurse who has strong leadership skills and is passionate about delivering innovative practice. The post holder will need knowledge, skill, and attention to detail to continue to support the substantive post holder to deliver real improvements in quality. Experience in cancer care would be welcome but not essential. Above all, we are looking for an individual who has a passion for making a difference and is committed to delivering excellent patient care in a safe environment.

This position is part-time (0.5wte). The BHOC matron is an integral part of the senior nursing team of the Division of Specialised Services, working closely with the matrons of the Bristol Heart Institute, and joining the Duty Matron rota for the Division.

There are three matrons at BHOC who have professional oversight of the following clinical areas: two inpatient wards (broadly divided into Oncology and Haematology including Stem Cell Transplant & CAR-T therapy), a Teenage and Young Adult cancer Unit, a joint Haematology and Oncology Same Day Emergency Centre (SDEC), Rapid Access Day treatment area, a joint Haematology and Oncology day unit delivering SACT treatments, two satellite units in South and North Bristol, delivering SACT treatments, line care, venesection, and phlebotomy, and an Outpatient Department providing outpatient consultations, phlebotomy, and non-SACT supportive treatments.

You will be a dynamic senior nurse with excellent clinical, managerial, and leadership skills who will act as a role model to peers and colleagues. You will be committed to identifying and pursuing opportunities for service development, ensuring there is a strong patient voice in all improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and that the Trust values underpin everything you do. As an equal opportunities employer actively working towards a diverse workforce, we aim to recruit and retain a workforce that represents the rich diversity of the local population at all levels and are committed to designing our services around the needs of individual patients and those around them.

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is one of the largest acute Trusts in the country, bringing together a combined workforce of over 13,000 staff and over 100 different clinical services across 10 different sites, serving a core population of more than 500,000 people across South West England. UHBW has been rated by the CQC as 'Good' overall and our staff are proud to deliver excellent care to the people of Bristol, Weston, and beyond. As a forward-thinking multi-award winning Trust and a digital exemplar committed to improving patient care, our world-leading research and innovations are having a positive local and global impact. Our hospitals are spread across Bristol and Weston; join us and you can enjoy the very best of both worlds: city living within a stone's throw of the countryside or beside the seaside, both with easy access to all that the South West has to offer.
