Main duties of the job

Provide senior clinical leadership. Identify new ways of working and influence others, whilst considering various perspectives. Able to respect the feelings of others and can be responsive to both individuals and organisational needs. Provide specialist clinical knowledge and expertise in their related field. Provide a positive visible role model influencing best practice from the clinical base. Work closely and supportively with the Department/ Service Managers in the allocated area, to develop and improve nursing practice.

Job responsibilities

To provide senior clinical leadership by being creative with both human and physical resources can look at new ways of working, highlighting new possibilities and can influence others, having the ability to see and understand situations from various perspectives.

The post holder needs to be able to respect the feelings of others and can be responsive to both individuals and organisational needs, having the ability to be supportive of others particularly when experiencing change management.

The post holder will need to provide specialist clinical knowledge and expertise in their related field. They will be a driver of qualitative, innovative, productive, safe evidence-based nursing care which promotes best practice and best outcomes for patients.

Outcomes will be based on direct and indirect patient feedback, internal and external audits, peer reviews, Matrons rounds, and corporate quality targets for both patients and staff.

The role is one that is 50% clinical and 50% managerial. The post holder will provide a positive visible role model influencing best practice from the clinical base challenging, encouraging, coaching, and mentoring appraisal needs of staff as they become apparent.

The post holder will work closely and supportively with the Department/ Service Managers in the allocated area, to develop and improve nursing practice, improve staff morale, resolve problems for patients and their relatives efficiently and effectively, ensuring that the workforce levels and skill mix are safe and appropriate.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential

RN or AHP Degree in related field (or equivalent experience) Relevant post registration experience Significant related experience in a clinical area Teaching and Assessment recognised qualification

Desirable

Completion of appropriate management and leadership programme Working towards Masters in related subject or willing to complete

Experience

Essential

Significant experience at a senior nursing level within related field. Proven track record in change management, team leadership, performance management.

Desirable

Previous experience to teaching, lecturing large audiences

Skills, Abilities, & Knowledge

Essential

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to demonstrate appropriate non antagonistic behaviour in stressful situations. Evidence of participation in audit, research, and development of staff Proven track record when dealing with human resource issues.

Desirable

Proven ability to utilise word, power point and excel to a level of producing documents, reports Proven ability to analyse highly complex problems and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them

Special Circumstances

Essential

Good team worker The post holder is required to work across all sites and will be required to travel between the sites in a timely manner.
