This is an incredible opportunity to make a real difference in patient care through leadership, expertise, and collaboration. There is one theatres service which is delivered across both our Lewisham Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital locations, providing both elective and emergency surgery. Leading a team of theatres co-ordinators, you will be responsible for 11 theatres at Lewisham Hospital. Working collaboratively with your counterpart theatres matron at Queen Elizabeth hospital, you will also work closely with consultants and other clinical colleagues to develop and implement high-quality services that meet the needs of our patients. Main duties of the job

To provide strong clinical leadership to ensure the smooth and effective running of the main theatres and strive for continuous productivity improvements to achieve national elective best practice standards. To ensure the delivery of excellent, patient-focused and cost-effective services which are responsive to the needs of patients, carers, and General Practitioners and are in line with the Trust's strategic direction and service plans. Undertake root cause and trend analyses for complaints and incidents relating to nursing/ODP, and participate in SI investigations. Identify risks within the area of responsibility and identify, plan, implement and evaluate strategies to reduce and manage risk. To influence strategic development to advance quality of care and enhance the patient experience. Utilise research findings, as applicable, in the delivery of specialist patient care, disseminating relevant information to colleagues. Contribute to the development of research/evidence-based practice within the team. About us

To manage the quality of the provision of nursing care at all times, within their ward/department. Hold Ward/Departmental Sister/Charge Nurse accountable for delivery of their key performance indicators in clinical areas on the Perfect Ward App. In conjunction with the Directorates Workforce Manager ensure effective action is taken where nursing performance is at risk of falling below expected levels. Ensure that the Trust's nursing and Midwifery priorities are implemented locally. To take appropriate action on issues of staff discipline, grievance, poor performance, and sickness, up to but not including dismissal. Risk & Clinical Governance

Ensure patients are cared for in a clean and safe environment, including the appropriate decontamination of multi-use equipment. Be champions for driving the infection prevention and control agenda and challenging poor practice. Manage and respond to complaints and adverse incidents, including serious untoward incidents. Undertake root cause analysis and develop action plans, ensuring that this leads to change in practice. Ensure Risk Assessments are undertaken and action plans implemented in wards and departments. Professional Leadership and Staff Management

Be a visible leader who is accessible to patients, visitors, and staff. Provide professional and clinical leadership within their wards/department. Develop Ward/Departmental Sister/Charge Nurse in leadership and management. Ensure that nursing staff comply with Trust-wide policies and procedures. R&D, Education and Training

Undertake training needs analysis in conjunction with the Training and Development Lead and Practice Development Nurses. Support the development and implementation of education and training programs within the area of responsibility for nurses and midwives. Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Degree Registered nurse [Part 1] / or theatres Practitioner Post registration qualification or equivalent experience in theatres specialty. Master's degree in relevant discipline or in process of studying to Masters level or equivalent experience. Teaching and assessing qualification. Experience

Proven experience of working in surgical specialities and theatres including high volume and/or day surgery. Senior clinical experience within specialty. Knowledge and Skills

Advanced nursing skills relevant to specialty. Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Personal Qualities

Facilitative working style. Sensitivity to emotional situations. Able to use own initiative. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
