Mechanical Design Engineer Birmingham, West Midlands £40,000 - £45,000 + per annum (depending on experience) Permanent position Summary: We are currently looking for an experienced and talented Mechanical CAD Design Engineer, utilising Solidworks with natural problem-solving skills, a technical background, and strong experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment. Your role: As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in the continued development of the Design Department and have a positive impact on the manufacture of high-quality bespoke engineered products. You’ll use unique and innovative design methods to create the best design solution for manufacturing, using your existing Engineering knowledge and experience to continuously look for and suggest ways to improve. Responsibilities include: Using Solidworks CAD package to create concept designs & virtual prototypes of a wide range of products for client approval. Taking initial concept designs to completion. Producing technical drawings for manufacturing (internal & external processes). Producing technical drawings for installation & liaising with installation teams. Working with Project Managers to ensure deadlines are met and designs are produced efficiently. Producing detailed requisition lists for procurement. Key Skills required: A strong background of Mechanical Engineering Design experience. Ideally a minimum of 2-3 years SolidWorks experience. An appreciation of metal fabrication & welding processes. Knowledge of sheet metal folding processes. Ability to carry out mechanical calculations. Familiarity with the design approval process and the issue of production drawings to ensure the best manufacturing and installation processes are used. Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A strong team-player with a drive to succeed. Flexible working attitude. Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritise work. Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office. Additional experience / skills (BENEFICIAL BUT NOT ESSENTIAL) include: Knowledge of FEA Element Analysis. Knowledge of AutoCAD. Knowledge of laser cutting including exporting dxf’s. Knowledge of manufacturing engineering. Knowledge of ISO 9001. Knowledge of BS EN 1090. Knowledge of Machine Directives. Knowledge of electrical control systems & actuators. Knowledge of hydraulics. Knowledge of pneumatics.
