Wärtsilä’s Energy Business is looking for a highly motivated and agile Mechanical Designer to join the rapidly growing Energy Storage & Optimization division of Wärtsilä Corp. The mechanical designer will be responsible for creating CAD models and drawing specifications for new battery energy storage systems to enable the effective utilization of renewable energy for Wärtsilä’s domestic and international customers. Additionally, the Design Engineer will be expected to work with various team members from different disciplines to create and maintain sheet metal parts, bills of materials, manage Engineering Change Notices (ECO), update and release drawing specifications to ensure timely delivery of new designs and support existing manufacturing. This position requires flexibility to work on multiple projects in various stages of the design, validation, and manufacturing product life cycle. The preferred location for this position is Toronto, Canada.

Our ideal candidate will have an Associate degree in mechanical design and 5+ years of experience working in product development, or a Bachelor's degree with 3+ years’ experience. What will you be doing: As a Mechanical Designer you will: Produce detailed solid 3D models and 2D drawings of components and complex assemblies in PTC Creo (Pro-E) or Autodesk Inventor; Update existing designs; Design new concepts; Present CAD designs for review; Implement changes on the design from other team members utilizing Asana work management platform. As Design Engineer you will have these responsibilities:

As part of the Mechanical and Thermal design team, help engineers design cost-effective fabrications to be built domestically and internationally. Advance CAD designs into built-to-print level drawings to be fabricated by Wärtsilä manufacturing partners. Manage design and drawing changes. Bring expertise and mentor other team members by establishing best practices and procedures. Help manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) - Changes and tracking. To be successful in this role, we expect you to:

Be highly proficient designing structural weldments, electrical cabinets, or outdoor enclosures. Be an expert with sheet metal design and cable routing using PTC Creo (Pro-E) or Autodesk Inventor. Have an understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment such as laser/water-jet machines, sheet metal, pipe and tube fabrication, structural (I-beams, C-channel). Adept with weld call-out (AWS D1.1) and dimensioning practices (ASME Y14.5). Experience with equivalent ISO standards is helpful. Experience with configuration control management, use of PDM systems is highly desirable. Experience with PTC Creo (Pro-E) or Autodesk Fusion is a plus. Maintain positive working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, vendors, shop and office in a fast-paced environment. Experience with Agile methodology and use of Asana is a plus. Have a team player attitude. Excellent written and verbal English and interpersonal skills. Able to work with an international team from different backgrounds, and in different time zones. Be willing to travel up to 20% of the time.
