Our client has been established for almost 40 years and is a recognised market leader in the design and development, manufacture, and distribution of an impressive portfolio of connection solutions for supply throughout the world. As a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth for 2025 and beyond, they are now looking to recruit an experienced, hands-on, and proactive Mechanical Design Engineer to complement their professional and successful Solutions Design team.
Reporting to the Manufacturing Design Manager and based near Sutton Coldfield, the successful Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for:
Designing and developing tooling and fixture designs. Implementing improvements to the manufacturing and assembly processes. Understanding company objectives and striving to meet and exceed KPIs and metrics. Delivering improved efficiencies and reducing downtime. Investigating and undertaking analysis on how to improve existing tooling or components. Creating technical reports to summarise findings and present information using PowerPoint. Covering the concept, specification, and development of new tooling components. Undertaking CAD model creation, prototyping, and appropriate testing. Performing essential material stress-strain analysis calculations and DFMEA/PFMEA analysis. Identifying new systems and processes to drive quality, efficiency, and cost savings. Evaluating existing manufacturing processes and researching solutions to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
With excellent communication skills at all levels, you will be able to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and contractors involved in a project. You will also be skilled in managing and planning your time effectively to ensure your projects are delivered on time, to standard, and within budget. Other duties will include: Working with coordinators and operatives to implement new machines and procedures. Providing manufacturing support and information for all processes. Creating CAD drawings, Tooling, and Fixture designs, and reviewing and storing them safely. Generating and maintaining product and process data. Undertaking NPD and associated testing and research as required.
To be considered for this varied and challenging Mechanical Design Engineer role, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will demonstrate at least 4+ years' experience in a similar Tooling/Mechanical design position and be qualified to at least HNC level or above in a relevant Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering discipline. SAP/ERP experience and knowledge of 3D CAD are essential. Experience of Press Tool or jig and fixture design, along with knowledge of metal manufacturing processes and ferrous and non-ferrous metals, will prove distinctly advantageous.
