Mechanical Designer Salary: £35,000 Location: Keynsham, BS31 Benefits: 33 days holiday, pension, sick pay, parking Hours: Monday to Friday, 37 hour week, potential for flexible start and finish times Duration: Permanent role A great opportunity to join an established, friendly and stable manufacturing company in Keynsham as a mechanical design engineer to develop equipment concepts and schemes that can be assembled, built and commissioned safely and effectively. SolidWorks is utilised to create detail drawings and material schedules which are clear, accurate and cost-effective to meet the requirements of the specification. This role reports to the Engineering Manager. Responsibilities: Design and develop specialised machinery utilising SolidWorks to meet customer expectations and requirements. Assist with the preparation of design proposals, tenders, and documents. Report problems and deficiencies in the design brief and develop pragmatic cost-effective solutions. Produce technical information, drawings, and associated schedules and documents, adhering to H & S requirements, designs, specifications, and standards relating to the project. Maintain drawing files and records throughout the duration of the project. Be the primary technical contact for the CAD/PDM system, liaising to resolve day-to-day problems. Work in conjunction with the Network Manager to oversee the required activities to implement CAD/PDM software & hardware updates and upgrades. Attend visits with colleagues to customers to commission and test machines and resolve problems. Liaise with suppliers and distributors. Ensure as-built specifications are recorded, and system function is tested and proven prior to commissioning. Identify opportunities to continuously improve the performance and reliability of equipment through innovative design improvements and, where appropriate, the use of new emerging technologies. Qualifications: Educated to degree level or HNC/D level or equivalent qualification in a mechanical engineering or design discipline. Experience in 3D modelling with SolidWorks is required; PDM knowledge is desirable. 2+ years design experience, but graduates could be considered. Any packaging industry knowledge or special purpose machine design would be of particular interest. Knowledge of CE and Health & Safety legislation. Understanding of continuous improvement techniques. Organised and pragmatic problem solver. Project management skills and the ability to assess risk. Ability to negotiate and positively influence customers during the project process. Current driving license and passport are required for this role as travel will be involved to customers from time to time. The mechanical design engineer role is working with an established and friendly production engineering company on the outskirts of Bristol in Keynsham where you will be an integral part of the design engineering team.
