is seeking an experienced

Mechanical Engineer for an initial 12-month contract

for our client-based South of Cambridge.

As a Product Development Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of product extensions and new product developments. This is a senior position, and the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a proven ability to direct cross-functional development teams as a Systems Architect while also taking a hands-on approach to solving complex electro-mechanical design challenges. Close liaison with customer development partners, Product Managers, and Project Managers will be an essential element of the role to ensure that products achieve both technical and commercial success.

Job Description/Key Accountabilities:

The successful candidate will:

Work closely with Product Managers to create and refine User Requirements for extensions to existing products and development of new products.

Liaise with stakeholders, including customer development partners, to define Functional Specifications.

As the System Architect, devise and communicate a product vision that will deliver the Functional Specification and then technically direct and work with a project team to turn that vision into a reality.

Cooperate with other groups and subject experts across the client's business to create holistic concepts and solutions.

Form an effective relationship with the Project Manager.

At a detailed level, devise effective mechanisms to meet specific product requirements, including size and cost constraints.

Work closely with the immediate project team to create and test prototypes and pre-production samples.

Analyse their own and the team's test data and use the data to make incisive and timely design decisions.

Be able to design consumable injection moulded plastic components and to work with the suppliers of these components (internal and external) to ensure high quality, high margin design solutions.

Lead design reviews to provide insight and direction to the engineering teams.

Experience/Qualifications:

Ideally a degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar from an established top-quartile University.

At least 7 years of experience in a relevant industry with a track record of working on complex systems software, hardware, and electronics.

Demonstration of the delivery of innovative and novel design solutions.

A broad-based knowledge of:

Electro-mechanical product development.

Mechanical Engineering.

Electrical Engineering.

Systems Engineering.

Sensor technology.

New Product Introduction processes.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Commercial awareness.

A team-oriented style of working, preferably within multi-site and multi-national teams.

The successful candidate will have multiple granted patents for mechanisms or products using electro-mechanical technology.

Knowledge of bioreactor design and/or crossflow filtration would give suitable candidates a distinct advantage.
