John Crane UK Limited are looking for a Mechanical engineer degree apprentice to complete a Level 6 Product Design & Development Engineer apprenticeship and join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with high-quality, reliable products solutions focused on rotating equipment, and to partner with John Crane customers to enable safe, controlled operations that meet the latest environmental standards. As a Mechanical engineer degree apprentice, the candidate will provide direct technical support to our UK Sales and Service business. The candidate will be involved in product selection and analysis, supporting John Crane's mechanical wet seal, wet seal system, and flexible element power transmission coupling products from order through to delivery and into service. With guidance, the candidate will learn to apply existing products to meet customer needs and support various engineering activities. Role & Responsibilities:

Technical Support: Assist in providing application support for engineering proposals, orders, retrofits, aftermarket, and service support. Troubleshooting: Help troubleshoot customer issues, escalating support as necessary. Product Support: Participate in product strip downs, root cause analysis (RCA), technical reports, design, and testing. Engineering Guidance: Support technical product selections and provide engineering guidance to UK Sales & Aftermarket teams. Design Work: Undertake 2D/3D CAD proposal design and drawing work as required. Hands-On Experience: Engage in hands-on product inspection, RCA, and laboratory testing. Skills Required:

Good organisational and timekeeping skills. Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team. Basic understanding of engineering tools such as 2D/3D CAD design and drafting, Finite Element Analysis, and engineering calculations. Personal Qualities:

Enthusiasm for mechanical engineering and a desire to learn. Mechanically minded with an appreciation for how components within a product interact. During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job. Please note the AMRC Training Centre reserves the right to close applications ahead of the published closing date. Qualification Requirements:

Degree Apprenticeship Entry Requirements: You will need

both

of the following: GCSE English language C or 4 or above. GCSE Maths C or 4 or above. You will need

one

of the following: A minimum of two A-Levels at grade B or above, including a mathematical-based subject and a science, technology, engineering or an additional mathematics-related subject. An Engineering BTEC Level 3 with at least 120 credits at Distinction Merit (DM) level or above. EAL Diploma in an engineering-based subject at Distinction level. Equivalent qualifications, such as Technical Levels at DM or above. Candidates with an HND or Foundation Degree or who have completed the second year of a degree in a relevant subject can be assessed for direct entry onto the 2nd or 3rd year of the programme (BEng top-up), but 1st year entry or an alternative pathway may still be recommended. Candidates who have not studied in the UK can submit transcripts for qualifications equivalent to level 3 which the admissions panel will review and may be taken in lieu of the specified qualifications. Applicants are also required to successfully complete the AMRC Training Centre and employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
