Introduction

Our client is looking to recruit a Lead Mechanical Engineer to manage a team of Engineers who are focusing on our client’s Net Zero Energy business! The work varies from feasibility studies through to detailed design, site surveys, and design verification to diversify Energy projects in the UK and further afield. You must have experience in high-pressure part design (pipes, valves, heat exchanges, vessels). This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days on site per week. Some site visits (monthly) and part-time working options are available. Key responsibilities

Provide technical leadership for Energy projects, focusing on design through to delivery. Mechanical design across plants, pipes, equipment, etc. Managing staff including supervising, career development, and mentoring. Working across small individual assignments or as part of a larger, multi-disciplinary team. Providing expertise across design phases, optioneering through to detailed design. Coordinating team activities such as resourcing and group meetings. Checking and providing assurance of deliverables. Skills & experience

You will have experience working in a leadership role, as well as being technically strong, with design experience across one or more of the following: power generation (from gas, biomass, hydro, and nuclear), natural gas cavern storage, hydrogen (production and cavern storage), and industrial decarbonisation. Leadership experience, covering either line management or mentoring and career development. You must have experience of high-pressure part design (valves, heat exchanges, vessels, pipes). Mechanical design background within a Power/Energy environment or similar. Chartered Engineer and a member of IMechE is desirable (they can support chartership). Experience across the following types of projects: pipe stress analysis, equipment specification and engineering specification writing, pressure part design calculations, and plant layout design.
