Shift Coordinator - Longport Stoke on Trent
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Locomotive Technician / Fitter looking to take the first steps towards management. As a Shift Coordinator, you will assist the Team Leader with overseeing the day-to-day operation of the team. You will act as the first point of call, providing on-the-job support and advice. You will have the opportunity to further develop your management skills by covering the Team Leader role during periods of absence.
This is a hands-on role, where you will be working alongside the team on the locomotives providing advice and guidance; therefore, applicants must possess a good level of technical know-how. If you are an experienced Technician/Fitter with a demonstrable history working with diesel-electric locomotives and are looking for an opportunity to progress your career, we want to hear from you!
The role will include:
Lead, encourage, train and support your team, embedding a culture of continuous improvement
Working with the Team Leader to ensure the correct priorities within the workshop are maintained and delivered to the production plan
Dealing with issues within the work area to prevent staff needing to leave the task they are working on
Conducting quality checks on the team's work to ensure quality standards are maintained
Ensuring the team has the sufficient tooling and information to complete the task within the given timescales
Ensuring that safety and housekeeping standards within the workshop are maintained throughout the shift
Updating production boards as required and lead actions from boards
Leading safety discussions and promoting safe working and reporting of safety issues
Conducting initial accident and incident reports and assisting with investigations and root cause analysis
Covering for the Team Leader when they are not available, including attending and conducting meetings
What we would love you to bring to the role:
Level 2 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Driving license (B/B1)
Demonstrable history of working effectively with diesel-electric locomotives or similar heavy plant machinery
Clear leadership skills
Strong work ethic with a proactive approach to getting tasks done
A strong communicator with the ability to build relationships across the organisation
Good attention to detail and a logical, analytical and objective approach to problem-solving
High level of professionalism & strong sense of customer satisfaction
Eager to be adaptable and learn new skills
Hours of Work:
Week 1:
Monday-Thursday 06:00-14:30, Friday 06:00-12:00
Week 2:
Monday-Thursday 14:00-22:00, Friday 11:00-17:00

Salary: From GBP29,000 depending on experience
