An opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join us at Midland Lead, an award-winning, family-run lead manufacturer that offers a comprehensive range of products to a range of sectors such as construction, healthcare and heritage. We are experts in cast, rolled and sandcast lead and have been in operation for over 40 years.

You will be working 40 hours per week on rotating shifts (mornings/days/lates) and will receive a salary up to £40,000 per annum. You will also receive full training & development opportunities, 22 days holiday plus bank holidays, life insurance (x2 salary), a discretionary annual company bonus, free onsite parking, access to online health support, a wellbeing package and regular team building activities such as football and company parties.

The main purpose of this role is to address both immediate and long-term mechanical needs, ensuring all plant machinery and equipment operate safely and efficiently and resolving maintenance breakdowns in a timely and flexible manner.

As Mechanical Maintenance Engineer at Midland Lead, you will:

Diagnose and resolve breakdowns across critical machinery, including casting machinery, furnaces, control units, and rewind machines, prioritising safe and effective solutions. Implement strategic, long-term solutions for machinery maintenance issues to prevent recurring problems, ensuring equipment is restored to optimal performance rather than applying temporary fixes. Engage in planned maintenance projects and support capital investments in new equipment (e.g., electrical panels) to improve long-term machinery reliability. Conduct deep overhauls, replacements, or upgrades on plant machinery to maintain mechanical stability and performance (as required to ensure plant availability). Work closely and communicate clearly with the production team to align maintenance activities with downtime schedules, allowing adequate time for essential maintenance tasks. Actively participate in project and site meetings to provide input on planned upgrades and repairs and stay informed of upcoming production needs and project timelines. Manage spare parts inventory and supplies required for both scheduled maintenance and breakdown repairs to ensure minimal downtime and operational continuity. Perform minor vehicle repairs (e.g., forklifts) as required. Collaborate with Operational Excellence to ensure a steady stock of critical components and materials, with emphasis on heavy mechanical engineering parts and welding supplies. Assist in implementing and maintaining quality systems and ensure the company complies with all areas of the Health and Safety at Work legislation. At Midland Lead, we’re looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer with the following: HNC or HND qualification in mechanical engineering (or equivalent). Solid understanding of technical diagrams and manuals. Experienced in preventative, reactive and improvement maintenance, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic fault resolution and mechanical component repairs including belts, bearings, chains and sprockets. Experience in heavy industry manufacturing. Flexibility to work occasional weekends for deep overhauls where the business requires.

This is a fantastic chance for an Engineer to join us at Midland Lead. We are an award-winning manufacturing business and are extremely proud to have recently won the King’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development, and winner of the 2023 East Midlands Chamber Derbyshire Business of the Year and Commitment to People Development Awards.
