The Clinical Engineering Service is looking for an individual to join our team to complement our existing staff groups. Do you have an interest in engineering technology and are looking to learn how medical health science technology promotes better health for all? Join us in an advanced engineering support service within an NHS Trust! You will be based at Torbay Hospital, working alongside various sections within the service. Your main initial role will be to support the front-line service provided by the Medical Devices Library, part of the Medical Electronics Section. The Medical Devices Library Service is an internal loan service to Torbay Hospital for key items of medical equipment used in all wards & most departments. You will be expected to visit healthcare sites in Devon to collect and return devices and undertake simple and straightforward repairs. Over the next few years, you will have the opportunity to develop technical competencies, potentially leading to fully funded engineering training programs at local colleges [L3/L4/HNC] and University [Level 6/BSc/BEng]. Our Medical Devices Officer will be required to travel to other centres in the South Devon area and must hold a full driver’s licence. Main duties of the job

Undertake the delivery and retrieval of all medical devices and equipment supporting the Clinical Engineering Services for Medical Electronics section, Medical Devices Library. Perform straightforward repairs, scheduled preventative and corrective maintenance, calibration, safety, and acceptance testing on a wide range of medical devices under close supervision from a more experienced technician. Provide guidance and training to colleagues & junior staff on the procedures to use, clean, and check loan medical devices held in the Medical Devices Library. Working for our organisation

The Clinical Engineering Service provides comprehensive management & technical support for a broad spectrum of medical devices used throughout the health, care, and social community. We are currently developing networks with scientific and laboratory services across Devon with our new Scientific, Laboratory Equipment Support section. The Medical Devices Library provides a loan service for key medical devices commonly used throughout the acute Trust, promoting & implementing a strong standardisation theme for medical devices held as library stock, enabling efficiencies in consumable costs and reducing opportunities for user error. The post holder will undertake the collection, delivery, and retrieval of all medical devices and equipment supporting the services provided by the Clinical Engineering Service: Loaned equipment from the Medical Devices Library. Medical Devices and other equipment at locations where the organisation provides health services throughout Devon, including driving trust vehicles. Perform straightforward repairs, scheduled preventative and corrective maintenance, calibration, safety, and acceptance testing on a wide range of medical devices under close supervision from a more experienced technician. Attend training courses relevant to the services being delivered and maintain competency levels appropriate for the work undertaken. Assist other members of the service in their duties to ensure the smooth running of the medical devices library loan service, providing optimal service to its users/customers. Provide straightforward advice and support to clinical staff, management, and external organisations for ward-based medical devices on hire or rental. Work within guidelines or boundaries of procedures, policy, best practice, legislations, or regulations. As a member of the CES, be a role model in terms of acceptable behavior & moral standards. Contribute to the reviews of service policies, procedures & guidelines. Person specification

Qualifications and Training

2x GCSEs grade in English, Maths, and a science subject or equivalent. 3x GCSEs grade A*-C including Maths, English, and/or Science ICT. Knowledge and experience

Experience working within a health, care, or social setting. Demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Office. Understanding of Patient and Staff Safety, and simple guidance from the HSE and MHRA. Evidence of practical knowledge and competencies demonstrated through hobbies and interests. Specific skills

Good and steady hand to eye coordination. Ability to follow instructions and information provided in written or verbal form. Customer-focused and oriented.
