We have a new and exciting job opening for a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA), available on a part-time (20h) and permanent basis in our Sample Reception Team. This position will involve receiving blood samples and close coordination with our Biomedical Scientists and Pathology staff to conduct a variety of tests requested by our clients. There will also be occasional weekend working on rota (2-4hrs on a Saturday). Who are we? SYNLAB Laboratory Services is part of SYNLAB UK & Ireland, who provide laboratory diagnostic and training services to a diverse range of sectors including healthcare and wellness, sport, travel, corporates and insurers, logistics and family law. Our site in Abergavenny has 2 in-house laboratories, offering a wide range of pathology tests including occupational health and wellness tests, as well as workplace drug and alcohol testing. In addition to our laboratories providing UKAS accredited ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 15189 testing, we are one of only a few providers offering an end-to-end in-house collection and laboratory service. What the role involves: Receipting, checking and sorting of specimens, labelling and preparation for analysis. Inputting patient and test data into the laboratory computer system. Maintaining accurate record keeping and excellent working practices in the laboratory. Use of LIMS, Quality Management System and other application software according to authorised protocols. If you have experience of working in a Biomedical Laboratory, this could be an advantage but not entirely necessary. The part-time role can be flexible with start and finish times. What we’re looking for: A minimum requirement of 3 GCSE’s or equivalent, to include English and Maths and at least one science subject. A detail-oriented individual who takes pride in their work and works well with computers and data entry. Willingness to work some Saturday mornings (2-4hrs). These hours can be taken back flexibly in the week which is something our staff benefit from. Must be an excellent team player with tenacious spirit and have a responsible and reliable sense. Ability to manage time to best advantage and with good communication skills. Good computer skills with accurate typing/data input.
