Job summary

We are recruiting for a Medical Laboratory Assistant - Cellular Pathology who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

Our busy department provides vital diagnostic services to the Trust. Duties will include receipt and labelling of samples, assisting in specimen dissection, inputting pathology requests on a computer system, and supporting the Biomedical Scientists.

The role will involve the handling of pathology tissue samples.

Lab experience is essential.

The Laboratory is moving to HSL Laboratory services; this post is NHS and will TUPE over on T&Cs on the 1st March 2025.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for coordination of activities and staffing in the Histopathology specimen reception. Organise the timely and accurate processing of histology specimens into wax. Responsible for sample receipt, numbering, and data entry on the computer system. Support of quality control processes. Participate in day-to-day management of stock control and usage. Maintain a clean and safe working environment. Use equipment in a safe manner and report any equipment faults to more senior members of staff. To work flexibly in reflection of service needs.

Qualifications

Essential GCSE Maths & English (A-C) or equivalent Desirable Computer literate - Word, Excel Experience

Essential Histology lab experience. Desirable Previous relevant laboratory experience Skills

Essential High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Good communication skills Interpersonal skills - ability to work alone and as part of a team Ability to concentrate for long periods of time Excellent organisational skills Manual dexterity appropriate to activities associated with post Desirable Written communication skills Knowledge of pathology IT systems Knowledge

Essential Understanding of role and activities associated with the post. Desirable Previous relevant experience of working in NHS Other requirements

Essential Self-motivated Ability to be flexible and respond to the needs of the service Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Disclosure and Barring Service Check
