We are seeking a dedicated

School Medical and First Aid Lead

to play a pivotal role in safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of our students. This is an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and supportive environment, ensuring high-quality medical care and first aid provision across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Leadership:

Act as the primary First Aider, coordinating and supporting other First Aiders and overseeing staff first aid training. Lead risk assessments for students with medical needs, including off-site activities, and provide relevant staff training. Administer medication (including PEG and tracheostomy care) and oversee storage, disposal, and record-keeping. Maintain comprehensive medical records, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.

Student Wellbeing:

Support students with health concerns, ensuring their attendance and engagement in learning. Provide first aid care and supervise during social times. Work collaboratively with parents and external professionals to update care and medication plans. Coordinate school nurse team visits for vaccinations and health checks.

Safeguarding:

Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) to support students, especially with self-harm concerns. Attend child protection meetings and escalate safeguarding concerns promptly.

Administrative Duties:

Manage the medical room, supplies, and first aid kits. Maintain up-to-date accident/near-miss reports and ensure compliance with reporting procedures. Organize and archive medical records and adhere to school policies, including the Safeguarding Policy.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Experience in education, childcare, or paediatric healthcare. Current First Aid at Work qualification (Paediatric First Aid desirable - training provided). Competency in administering medication, including PEG and tracheostomy care. Strong clinical decision-making skills and high standards of medical care. Excellent organisational, administrative, and ICT skills (MS Office, SIMS). Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work empathetically with students and families. Personal Attributes:

Motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible. Meticulous with attention to detail and strong confidentiality skills. A team player with the ability to work independently when required. Additional Requirements:

Must hold or be willing to obtain an enhanced criminal record disclosure. Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD).
