Duties and responsibilities include: Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system Processing face to face and telephone requests for appointments, visits and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail Taking messages and passing on information Filing and retrieving paperwork Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers Providing clerical assistance to practice staff as required from time to time, including filing, photocopying and scanning Keeping the reception area, notice-boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter The post-holder should recognize the importance of effective communication within the team. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be computer literate and have the ability to work under pressure. Must also have good administrative skills and the ability to multitask. Duties include making appointments, dealing with patient enquiries both in person and on the telephone and general administrative tasks. Flexibility with hours is expected to cover holidays and sickness. Must be reliable, hardworking and able to work within the NHS confidentiality guidelines.
