Patient administration underpins the patient journey, supports clinical teams in delivering high quality patient care and can make a real difference to the patient experience. Effective and efficient patient administration supports management through ensuring a high standard of data quality and by making the best use of capacity and resources. The Medical Secretarial Assistant is a vital part of effective patient administration. Main duties of the job

Assists and supports the medical secretaries in providing an efficient medical secretarial service for the clinical team. Assists and supports the medical secretaries in achieving targets including CQUINs and validation. Assists and supports the Elective Access Clerk to provide an administrative service to the patient which supports the achievement of nationally and locally agreed access standards. Provides cover for colleagues in their absence to maintain service levels. Person Specification

Qualifications

Typing and/or Word/Text Processing Skills. GCSE English Grade C or equivalent. 4 GCSEs Grade C or equivalent. Business Admin NVQ II or equivalent. Audio Typing Experience Text Word processing & audio skills to RSA II or equivalent. Previous Experience

Previous experience in an office environment. Some knowledge of medical terminology. NHS experience. Skills

Ability to complete tasks accurately and efficiently. Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload to achieve deadlines. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability and confidence to communicate at all levels. Competent Microsoft Word User. Awareness and Knowledge of the dignity in care agenda. Ability to evidence/demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework. Ability to operate office equipment, e.g. Fax, Photocopier. Specific Requirements

Conscientious in standard of work produced. Ability to work to tight deadlines and as part of a team. Clear understanding of the importance of confidentiality. Commitment to work towards recognised qualifications as appropriate. Ability to work from their own initiative. Adaptable to change. Readiness to try new things.
