The Mental Health Team at HMP Littlehey are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, experienced Mental Health Nurse to join the team. We are looking for someone who enjoys a challenge, can work well within a team and autonomously. We currently have a vacancy for a newly qualified or experienced Band 5 Nurse.

NHFT provides healthcare wellbeing services within HMP Littlehey.

The Mental Health team is part of the integrated Healthcare provision which provides mental health services to the residents at HMP Littlehey. The team consists of mental health nurses, a clinical psychologist, an assistant psychologist, support workers, and visiting psychiatrists.

The service provides comprehensive, safe, and effective mental health services via a stepped care model over a 5-day week. The post holder will utilise a variety of practical and theoretical knowledge with the team to deliver both individual and group workings with primary and secondary service individuals.

Main duties of the job The post holder should have a thorough understanding of care planning and knowledge of physical healthcare needs. The post holder should be committed to and have an understanding of evidence-based practice. The post holder should have an awareness of safeguarding issues and responsibilities under relevant legislation, a good understanding and knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act, and understand the importance of NICE Guidance, with a clear understanding of the needs of service users. They should be approachable and accessible to colleagues, residents, and across the organization.

Additionally, the post holder should have the ability to work in a flexible way and respond to change, be reliable and consistent in their approach, demonstrating empathy and an open communication style with all individuals, fostering this culture across the team. They should encourage others to make decisions, share ideas, knowledge, and skills to enhance the quality of care. The post holder should have good decision-making skills and the ability to work autonomously, lead, motivate, and inspire the team on a daily basis, bringing all team members together in providing high standards in the provision of Mental Health support and care across the service. They should be resilient and able to respond calmly under pressure, have appropriate levels of assertiveness skills, and possess decision-making and problem-solving skills.

About us HMP Littlehey is a Category C Male prison based within rural Cambridgeshire with easy access by car from the A1 and A14, with free parking on site.

At HMP Littlehey, we are an integrated Healthcare provision. The Mental Health Team provides a service across both primary and secondary care needs within a Trauma Informed Pathway.

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health, and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work, or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
