At Wirral CYP MHS, we are working together with families and community services to improve mental health through accessible, inclusive, specialist care and support to increase children and young people's potential and life chances.
We seek to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic individual who is passionate about CYP mental health.
The Mental Health Support Teams are part of an exciting project funded by NHS England, Health Education England and partners, aiming to improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties in Wirral Primary Schools. The purpose of the mental health support team is to promote positive Mental Well-Being as well as Positive Mental Health. The main focus of Mental health Support teams is:
To provide support and advice to school staff through consultation and training.
To work with children and young people 1-1 or through group work.
To support schools in their development of a Whole School Approach to Mental Health.
This is a permanent position. Ideally this would be full-time, however part-time or flexible hours may be considered.
Main duties of the job
The Mental Health Practitioner will be a senior practitioner within MHST with a particular focus on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). By having sound knowledge and experience of working with CYP with SEND and their parents/ carers, primary responsibilities will be to:
Work directly in SEND schools delivering specific interventions to CYP and to parents/ carers.
Manage a small caseload of CYP presenting with complex mental health difficulties, and/or SEND difficulties.
Consult and collaborate with Senior Mental Health Leads in schools, and with MHST practitioners, to develop and deliver effective SEND psychoeducation training/ interventions to school staff, CYP with SEND, and their parents/carers.
Support and implement the development of the Wirral MHST SEND core offer.
Support the integration of wider Wirral SEND developments into MHST.
Provide consultation to MHST colleagues about CYP with SEND.
Provide supervision to MHST practitioners within the team (following training).
