We require someone who can lead, mentor and inspire our team of engineers, with a track record in business development among architects and developer circles. My client has exciting expansion plans, making this a perfect time to join. Purpose We need to recruit an outstanding Director to support the running of our Bristol Office. Responsibilities include leading the office team to implement consistent project delivery, technical delivery, processes, and reporting office performance against targets. While technical expertise is incredibly important, the position demands a Director with a positive mindset towards change, who is capable, energetic, and embraces innovation in a fast-paced environment. Moreover, the Director will possess a “can-do” attitude to support functions, facilitating the implementation of robust project delivery. Preferred Candidate Background The Director position requires a professionally qualified, high-caliber leader who possesses a proactive and commercial approach to management and a genuine desire to drive sustainable value through growth. The role requires a range of leadership and stakeholder management skills, along with the ability to develop and motivate the office team. The individual should be strategically focused but also very “hands-on” to ensure the creation of a team spirit operating efficiently to maximize gross margin. Key Requirements: An experienced, commercial, and appropriately qualified professional with a proven track record of success within a similar, challenging role. Experience in building services business essential. Degree qualified in electrical, mechanical engineering or related discipline. Achieved chartered membership in an engineering discipline. Strong commercial acumen with demonstrable experience in driving sales, gross margin, and improving financial performance. Systems and process-oriented, with a mindset geared towards implementing technology solutions across the business to drive positive change. Strong leadership capability with a genuine focus on leading a team and developing people. The Role The primary duty of the Director is accountability for all aspects of the running of the Bristol office, including staff management, business development, and ensuring projects are delivered technically correct and on time. Promote cross-selling among other offices and disciplines such as sustainability and liaise with other Directors and Senior Leadership as required. Primary Responsibilities: Lead, manage, and direct the profitability of the office. Implement and monitor office profitability and ensure operating plans are executed to achieve maximum results. Participate in the strategic plan for office development and growth in cooperation with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Manage personnel activities within the office to provide high-quality services and achieve or exceed plan results. Provide overall office leadership in cooperation with the management team and Project Managers. Maintain key client relationships and serve as Project Principal or Project Manager as required. Personal Characteristics High degree of emotional intelligence, able to work effectively with clients, the SLT, and other Directors. A logical thinker with the ability to break down problems to find solutions. Extremely resilient character with the ability to deal with constant change and regular new challenges. Experience 10+ years of senior management and team leadership in a building services company. Experience in the construction sector. Experience in leading teams.
