Palmer Industries is a small, independently owned metal furniture manufacturer. Our products are architectural in nature, of very high quality, and appeal to a designer market. Palmer’s products are sold via a network of upscale bath and kitchen dealers, as well as directly to the designer trade and hospitality segments. As a member of our team, you will serve an essential and integral role in our business model and operations. This machinist/assembly employee will be part of an 18-member Fabrication Department, assembling, machining, and cutting brass material. This position will also work closely with engineering to contribute to new product development and best practices. Training in Palmer’s unique business model and product lines will be provided. Desirable, clean, and comfortable working conditions with A/C, etc. are provided. Palmer also provides our fabrication team with uniforms and laundry service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Keeping immediate supervisor up to date on all projects, with regards to project status, completion time, and any problems that may have arisen during the course of the project. Operating required machinery and equipment (such as chop-saws, mill/drill machine, lathe, hand tools) in a safe manner following established safety rules, maintaining a neat and clean work area, following established tool and instrument control procedures, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to immediate supervisor. Calculate (using basic math and fractions) all necessary cut lengths of various tubular components. Perform basic touch-up polishing on powered buffing wheels. Perform formal inspections of completed work. Assist with incoming and outgoing shipments when necessary (some very moderate lifting is required). Assemble and install prototype product assemblies in our shop for Engineering evaluation. Possess thorough expertise and in-depth knowledge of our technical subject matter and products. Modification of existing parts as well as fabrication of custom components. Fabrication of Jigs, fixtures, and tooling. Precision, accuracy, and attention to detail a must. Regular, scheduled maintenance of equipment. Work closely with sales to execute custom designs and modifications to existing parts. Maintain a clean and organized workspace. Performing other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Must possess demonstrated ability to operate shop equipment including drill press, lathe, mill, chop saw, and band saws. Must possess the ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Mechanical/technical/building background and aptitude necessary to master our fabrication methods. Precision, accuracy, and attention to detail a must. Ability to read basic shop drawings. Associate degree or High School Equivalency. Ability to maintain a clean and organized workspace. Excellent “people” skills and sensitivity when interacting with co-workers. Active listening skills and clear speaking skills to receive and convey information effectively. Ability to work well in a team environment. Ability to be flexible, undertaking various work assignments. Ability to think independently, self-check and perform accurate work. Ability to multi-task willingly as standard operating procedure, and maintain a rational demeanor. Ability to work to deadlines. Basic math literacy (especially fractions).
