About the Role Flitwick Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and dedicated minor illness nurse to join our practice on a full-time basis, for 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. You will work alongside our GPs and multi-disciplinary team via telephone or face to face assessment to provide patient care for minor illness. There is scope to extend your interests with the management of chronic diseases and/or women’s health to include sexual health and HRT. Main duties include: Delivering safe and effective nursing care to the whole practice population. Providing the first-contact minor illness and nurse-led triage service. Providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment and referral of patients with minor illness/injury or exacerbations of chronic conditions. Reviewing medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs. Prioritising health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations. Running clinics for the management of long-term conditions (such as diabetes or respiratory illnesses) or provide advice for women’s health matters or provide a LARC service. About the Candidate All applicants should have the following qualifications, registrations, skills and experience: A relevant nursing degree. Current NMC registration with an active PIN. Minimum of 5 years post registration experience. At least 2 years recent primary and community nursing experience. Experience in first contact minor illness and nurse-led triage. Recent experience, and management of patients with minor illnesses and minor injuries. Skills in management of patients with long-term conditions. Awareness of accountability of own and other’s roles in a nurse-led service. Knowledge of health promotion strategies. Wider health economy awareness. Knowledge of clinical governance issues in primary care. Leadership skills and management knowledge. About Us Flitwick Surgery is a busy practice serving a population of 14,500 patients. It is run from a purpose-built medical centre with onsite parking for staff. We are a semi-rural dispensing doctor partnership with easy access for commuters from a wide area (on a direct train line to London, 25 minutes from Milton Keynes or 15-20 minutes from the M1 or A6). We are a patient focused surgery with a multi-disciplinary supportive team including 4 GP partners, 5 salaried GPs, a nursing team including a minor illness nurse, practice nurses and HCAs. We also have a strong practice pharmacy team with clinical pharmacists and a pharmacy technician. Alongside this we are part of a PCN and supported by PCN pharmacists, FCP physios, a paramedic and a health and wellbeing coach. We are also actively engaged in national research projects.
