Berkshire Healthcare are seeking an organised and motivated candidate for a Band 4 MSK Physiotherapy Assistant role in the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Outpatient team. This is a part time post (30 hours) based at West Berkshire Community Hospital.

Ideally we are looking for someone with experience in this role or in healthcare but this is not essential. This job would be particularly well suited to applicants with a background in sports and exercise, with experience of delivering exercise and manual therapy. We will provide in-house training to develop the necessary competencies and mentoring to upskill the successful candidate.

Our Therapy Assistants are highly valued members of our clinical team who help us to deliver excellent care and rehabilitation to an extremely varied cohort of patients. You will be closely supported by the team which, depending on location, is comprised of Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Assistants and Administrators.

Main duties of the job We are looking to recruit someone who can contribute to the positive culture of our team, engage with staff and patients respectfully, and conduct their work in a professional manner. The role will encompass:

Assisting the physiotherapists in the delivery of individual and group exercise programmes. This may involve delivering exercise sessions, hands-on therapies such as massage and patient education. Training is provided in any of the modalities used. All patients are initially assessed by the physiotherapist.

Ensuring stock and equipment levels are maintained and re-ordered on a regular basis and that equipment is well maintained and clean in line with infection control guidelines.

Carrying own new patient caseload with simple predictable conditions and those delegated by a therapist.

Assisting in the administrative duties of the physiotherapy service when required, including reception duties, data inputting, photocopying, assisting with audits and completing patient records.

Supervising and supporting Band 3 Physiotherapy Assistants.

Person Specification Education/Qualifications/Training

Higher Apprenticeship in Health Level 5 or Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care Practice or Higher Professional Diploma in Health and Wellbeing or a recognised equivalent course

Evidence of a good standard of education with GCSE's Grade C and above, or equivalent, in English Language and Maths.

Qualification in exercise therapy

Continuous Professional Development

Demonstrate commitment to continued professional development.

Previous Experience

Experience of working in a health or social care setting/NHS

Previous experience of taking classes/group work

Demonstrate problem solving skills

Previous experience of working in a physiotherapy team/relevant other experience within the NHS

Previous experience of running an exercise group or similar group

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages

Excellent problem solving skills

Able to adapt to changing circumstances and adapt treatments appropriately

Able to plan and co-ordinate effectively

Able to use initiative appropriately

Committed to providing high quality patient care.

Able to manage own workload and prioritise

Knowledge of the trust database: RiO

Ability to travel to multiple sites

Flexible approach to meet the needs of the service

Ability to deal with challenging behaviour
