Job Details Multisystemic therapy (MST) is an intensive family and community-based intervention targeting the multiple causes of antisocial behaviour in young people who, without intervention, could be at risk of being placed into local authority care or at risk of custody or secure care. In MST, parents and caregivers are viewed as the main instigators of change in the young person. The ultimate goal of MST is to empower the family to take responsibility for making and maintaining positive changes in the young person’s behaviour. We are looking for a practitioner with significant experience working effectively with young people and families with multiple problems and challenging behaviours. You will need to evidence considerable success in engaging hard-to-reach families and have experience in delivering therapeutic interventions. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to remain calm and defuse difficult situations. Key Tasks: Provide a specialist intensive family support service to maintain young people at home with their families when safe to do so. Carry a small, specialist caseload of children & families with complex and severe problems. As an independent practitioner, have accountability and responsibility for your own caseload under the supervision of the MST Supervisor/Programme Manager, selecting from a range of empirically based specialist therapeutic interventions. The Person: Educated to SCQF level 9, which includes a Degree or equivalent in Social Work, Applied Psychology, Mental Health Nursing or equivalent. Completion of courses/qualifications in theoretical models and applied therapeutic techniques relevant to an adolescent/serious conduct disorder population. Workers new to the role must gain registration with the relevant regulatory body within six months of start date. Significant experience of working effectively with young people and families with multiple problems and challenging behaviours. Knowledge and experience of family systems, social ecological and cognitive behavioural therapy theories and their application. Ability to travel within Fife. Must be able to participate as part of a 24-hour per day, 7 days per week on-call rota. The candidate will ideally have a post-graduate qualification in psychology, social work, counselling or an equivalent professional qualification from a relevant field of child/adolescent or adult/parenting practice. Experience and knowledge in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Family Therapy and/or pragmatic behavioural interventions would be preferred, although full training in the MST model will be provided. Therapists receive weekly group supervision from the manager and consultation from MST Services. Applicants with a related undergraduate degree and significant relevant professional experience will be considered. Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
