KYN BICKLEY is an 86-bedroom home offering each resident an elegant and comfortable bedroom, communal areas for dining and reclining; and inviting outdoor terraces overlooking landscaped gardens bordered by woodland. The Role This role is ideal for an adaptable professional musician with experience of working with older people living with Dementia, who is passionate about using music as a tool for enhancing the quality of life for older adults and who enjoys working in a caring, supportive environment. This is a new role for KYN Bickley. The primary aim is to support residents living with dementia to improve their wellbeing. The post holder will also support the team to understand the benefits of music in dementia care and become more confident in its use. About the opportunity: As the Musical Care Practitioner here at KYN, you will be an essential part of the operations team, helping to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere consistently delivering an exceptional experience for our residents and their families. You will lead music activity, group music making, and entertainment with personal, social and therapeutic benefits for participants on either a one-to-one basis or within a group setting. You will also support residents living with dementia to improve their wellbeing. As a Musical Care Practitioner, you will be responsible for: Planning, setting up and leading interactive and participatory group music making sessions. Performing live music to enhance the wellbeing of residents, ensuring engagement and enjoyment. Tailoring performances and activities to the needs of residents, considering preferences, musical identities, cognitive abilities, health conditions and barriers faced. Involving the residents in the development of the musical opportunities, activity and experiences available. Introducing new musical experiences that develop and enhance their musical exposure and identities. Researching and identifying equipment to support group and individual music making activities. Planning, setting up and leading one-to-one music sessions for residents. Adapting sessions for residents with specific needs to address barriers to participation. Working closely with the care team to ensure music activities complement care plans. Participating in care home events, special occasions, and themed weeks, providing musical input as needed. Maintaining accurate records of music activities and engagement levels. Ensuring all performances and activities are conducted safely, adhering to care home policies. About you: Proven experience in music performance and therapeutic music practice. A multi-instrumentalist with a high level of musical proficiency. Experience leading participatory music activities for people living with dementia. Skilled in leading both group and individual music activities. Creative in designing engaging and meaningful music sessions. Open to learning new skills. Passionate about sharing music and collaborating with others. Experience in care or related settings.
