Oxford University is seeking veterinary surgeons/NVS’s to join our team of vets at the Department of Biomedical Services. We have several vacancies and will consider candidates who wish to work part-time as well as full-time. There is also potential for some flexible working. These positions are permanent contracts. The core purpose of the University of Oxford’s Biomedical Services (BMS) is to provide for the care and welfare of animals in experimental research, supporting the scientific community across the University. At BMS, we currently operate a hybrid veterinary/Named Veterinary Surgeon service with a mix of in-house and outsourced staff. We are moving towards a full in-house service over the next 18 months, building our internal veterinary team to support researchers by providing the clinical expertise they need while ensuring compliance with the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA). We are looking for individuals who appreciate the need to provide animal services for the advancement of medicine and medical breakthroughs. Our vets have a core role in providing expert support and clinical procedural expertise to the University’s Principal Investigators, their research groups, and our animal technicians at BMS. In addition to an excellent remuneration and benefits package, we will train new vets who are not already Named Veterinary Surgeons to achieve NVS status, enhancing both expertise and career opportunities. Once a NVS, the salary band will be increased to grade 9. We are also interested in existing Named Veterinary Surgeons who would join us at grade 9. If you are committed to supporting animal welfare and the advancement of medical research and wish to use your expertise within a world-leading University, you can find out more by speaking to our Head of Compliance, Ellen Meek, at ellen.meek@bms.ox.ac.uk. Due to the nature of the work, security screening of all applicants is carried out during the application process. Please contact the HR Assistant at personnel@bms.ox.ac.uk between 08:30 and 15:30 to obtain a unique reference number. Applications received without a unique reference number may not be considered.
