Nature Reserves Sites Manager (North-East Suffolk)

Full time
Location: Saxmundham
·
Job offered by: Suffolk Wildlife Trust
·
Category: IT & Technology
The North East Suffolk Sites Manager will oversee 12 reserves, ensuring their biodiversity and wildlife conservation. This management and leadership role offers an opportunity to significantly impact the region’s ecological health.

Since being founded in 1961, Suffolk Wildlife Trust has led the way in conservation across Suffolk, protecting some of the county's most important wildlife areas. As a grassroots organisation, we’re passionate about ‘Bringing nature back’ by inspiring and empowering local communities to care for and act on behalf of nature, while managing our 50 nature reserves and advocating for wildlife.

As the Sites Manager for nature reserves covering the north east of Suffolk, you’ll be an inspiring leader with significant experience in managing nature reserves and leading teams to achieve even more for wildlife. Reporting to the Wildlife Conservation and Recovery Director, you’ll be responsible for creating and maintaining a network of exceptional nature reserves across the region, from our flagship site at Carlton Marshes in Lowestoft to Darsham Marshes near Dunwich. The reserves offer a stunning range of habitats, from reedbeds and marshes to wildflower meadows and coppice woodlands. Carlton Marshes is an area of 1,000 acres of wilderness in the Broads National Park, with floodplain marsh and lowland fen home to some of the largest populations of wading birds in the East of England.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced leader to make a real difference for wildlife. Your work will focus on three key areas: managing the reserves, leading staff and volunteers, and developing the reserves as flagship sites for the Trust’s work, representing us in the local community. You can expect to spend around 80% of your time on these areas, directly contributing to our mission of ‘Bringing nature back.’

This is a permanent, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week based at our offices at Carlton Marshes (Lowestoft). The starting salary will be between £37,000 and £39,958 per annum, depending on skills, knowledge, and experience.

To apply, please submit an application via our website by 8:00am on Friday 31 January 2025. The application process will include uploading a CV and cover letter. The interviews are planned for Wednesday 12 February 2025 at Carlton Marshes. Please indicate on the application your availability for interview.

Suffolk Wildlife Trust is committed to an inclusive and diverse workplace where everyone is welcome. As a conservation charity, we recognise the importance of diversity in both nature and our workforce of staff and volunteers. We strive to ensure that everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute to our vision of “A Wilder Suffolk where nature is thriving and abundant because everyone is doing more to help.”
