About the role

At BMT, we believe our people are our greatest assets. That’s why we invest in talented individuals. We are excited to offer an opportunity for ambitious and self-motivated students with an interest in Naval Architecture to join our team.

Our Naval Architecture Capability team works on a diverse range of technical projects, solving customer problems and delivering innovative custom solutions. We collaborate with customers to design new and existing vessels (ships and submarines) and assist them in managing their in-service support needs. Through leveraging new and emerging technologies, we deliver solutions which are relevant now and for the future.

As a Year in Industry student, you will receive training from our experienced professionals who will mentor you throughout your tenure. You will be instrumental in delivering high-quality solutions to enhance BMT’s globally recognised design and engineering capabilities. You will be involved in formulating solutions for intricate problems, interpreting and communicating results, and contributing to the advancement of innovative analysis methods and processes. This training will equip you with the knowledge, skills, and experience to propel you to the next level in your future academic studies and career.

About you

We are looking for students who possess the following qualifications and skills:

Currently studying for an academic degree (or its equivalent) in a scientific or engineering field such as Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ship Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Mathematics;

An interest in pursuing a career in a specialist technical engineering field focused on naval architecture, ship science, and hydrodynamics;

Aptitude for teamwork and collaboration with engineers and professionals from a range of backgrounds;

Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively, both in writing and verbally;

Proficiency in relevant engineering tools and software (such as Computer-aided Design (CAD), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Python) would be considered an advantage;

A keen interest in delivering a first-class service to our customers, characterised by attention to detail.

This role will be based from either our Bath or Southampton/Whiteley office with Hybrid working.

Please note roles within the Defence Sector require full UK security clearance so you must have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.
