An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, autonomous and highly skilled Clinical Psychologist to join the new Paediatric Clinical Psychology Team at James Paget University Hospital, Gorleston.

Main duties of the job

With this new post, you will form part of a growing Clinical Psychology team with interesting opportunities to be involved in service development, innovation, improvement and team working, as we expand the areas of paediatrics we cover at the hospital. You will be part of a dedicated team, who already work alongside the multidisciplinary paediatric teams at JPUH within the specialities of diabetes, epilepsy, functional neurological disorders, gastroenterology, orthopaedics and general paediatrics. This new post will focus on psychology expansion into the Level One, Special Care Neonatal Unit at JPUH. Working with the existing multidisciplinary team, who are very keen to welcome a Clinical Psychologist onto the Team.

We are a small Paediatric Clinical Psychology team that offers excellent opportunities for professional support and development. We always have trainees on placement with us from local ClinPsyD programmes for core placements, specialist placements and research. This post would also be supported by a well-established wider network of Clinical Psychologists working in neonatal units in the East of the Region.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

Professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the British Psychological Society. Eligible for Full Membership of the BPS Division of Clinical Psychology.

Desirable

Pre-qualification training and qualifications in other fields of applied psychology. Post-qualification training in approaches and therapies appropriate for the Neonatal context e.g. working with attachment, trauma, systems/family therapy and bereavement.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in-patient settings. Undertaking psychological assessment and interventions relating to the Neonatal service area. Working with a wide variety of patient groups within this specialism, presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity. Representing psychology within the context of multidisciplinary care. Working clinically in health and medical settings relevant to the service area. Working effectively with other professionals in multidisciplinary settings.

Desirable

Experience working psychologically with a client group or in a setting relevant to Neonatal Psychology e.g. Paediatrics, Infant mental health, working with families, Perinatal or Maternity settings. Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts. Experience of line managing psychological staff. Experience of working through an interpreter.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological and neuropsychological assessment, intervention and management. Highly developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings. Good time management and prioritisation skills. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
