New or Recent Graduate Vet – Castle Vets, County Durham Graduate Programme - Small Animal Vet

We have a fantastic opportunity for a New or Recent Graduate to join us at Castle Veterinary Surgeons in County Durham.

We have 2 main sites in Barnard Castle and Bishop Auckland. Barnard Castle is in a lovely rural market town, however, close to good transport links. Our site in Bishop Auckland is a recent relocation, which has 2 theatres, dental suite and 5 consulting rooms. We have some great new equipment including lap spay kit and dental x-ray.

Durham is a wonderful county to live in, it provides the beauty of a rural County with a wonderful historical city, but with the benefits of great motorway access to get to Scotland and the Lake District quickly, with the bright lights of the cities of Newcastle or Middlesbrough/Sunderland being close by. Within the County, the Durham dales and Durham coast are both very accessible.

We are a 7 Vet, 13 RVN team. We have a real focus on each other's progression and development and work to deliver the best contextualised care that we can. Between us, we have various certificate holders, a CertAVP in progress as well as some other areas of interest including exotics and behaviour.

This is a full time position.

As well as enjoying our modern facilities, well-equipped practice and a busy varied caseload, you will have access to a range of benefits and for new graduates our tailor-made New Graduate programme offering you the right support network in practice, by ensuring you have an experienced clinical mentor working alongside you. In addition, you will attend dedicated Continued Professional Development (CPD) days, supporting the development of your clinical skills and non-clinical skills, including self-leadership, teamwork, wellbeing, resilience and business, whilst also providing the opportunity for you to share experiences with fellow graduates.

These are just some of the benefits of the programme:

Paid onboarding phase which includes a Residential if joining as a 1st year new graduate. All UK travel, accommodation and subsistence costs for the Residential will be covered by CVS.

Starting salary of at least £35,000 which increases at the end of year 1 and at the end of year 2.

No financial tie-in beyond completion of the programme.

Professional memberships (RCVS & VDS).

Up to 7 weeks annual leave plus Bank Holidays (or equivalent) with our Buy/Sell holiday scheme - allowing you to purchase an additional two weeks of annual leave.

Receive an extra day’s leave each year in your first 5 years at CVS.

10 CPD days a year covering both clinical and non-clinical skills and tailored to your clinical role.

A committed and trained clinical buddy working alongside you in practice, with regular meetings to support your transition from student to qualified vet.

Workplace pension scheme.

Discounted pet treatments.

Employee Assistance Programme: 24/7 365 days a year helpline to support you and your immediate family when you need it the most.
