Are you in your final year of study? Are you completing an Adult Nursing Degree / Operating Department Practice Degree and eager to build your career?

If so, we would love for you to come and start your journey with us at Portsmouth Hospitals University Trust. Are you looking for an exciting & dynamic career opportunity where every day is different?

Queen Alexandra Hospital has a reputation as a dynamic and innovative place to work. The Theatres are leading the way in Robotic Surgery and have been established as a Worldwide Centre of Excellence. There are 29 modern, state-of-the-art theatres across 2 floors and 2 additional theatres that are located within the Maternity unit which undertake elective, emergency and trauma work for Adults, Paediatrics & Obstetric patient groups.

You are expected to upskill and rotate between 2 areas. In addition to this, Anaesthetic, Recovery & Scrub staff provide support to Maternity Theatres, Interventional Radiology, MRI & Gastro remote services. The service provides 24/7 cover and can offer a variety of shift patterns.

In more recent times, Theatre staff have rotated into Critical Care and there are also opportunities to develop skills in this area as part of an ongoing development programme to build a more flexible workforce.

Main duties of the job

We aim to develop you once established within your primary clinical area, by facilitating rotational positions into at least 2 areas of Operating Department Practice (Recovery, Scrub and Anaesthetics). Opportunities may also be available to rotate into Critical Care for those who want to expand their skillset further.

We are always keen to recognise talent and offer the opportunity to advance in different specialties by encouraging rotation and the acquisition of new skills. We encourage our staff to undertake Leadership and Management courses and empower them to develop leadership skills as well as essential clinical-decision making skills to progress within the perioperative environment.

You will be supported by an enthusiastic team of staff to help you develop skills in caring for patients across a range of specialties. You will be given the opportunity to undertake a competency-based training package and will be supported via the allocation of a suitable mentor and/or buddy system. We also have a number of dedicated Educational/Training mornings identified throughout the year and an excellent IT facility to support with online training.

To enable your development, we have a dedicated team of Practice Educators who are focused on delivering a meaningful and achievable Educational programme.
