EPUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate NHS locum Consultant Psychiatrist to join well-established North East Essex Home Treatment team. The service covers North East Essex which includes Colchester and Tendring areas. There are areas of particular social deprivation with considerable drug and alcohol-related difficulties in the parts of local population. Main duties of the job

The Home Treatment Team provides rapid assessment and short-term, intensive community support to all aged patients with severe mental illness as an alternative to inpatient hospital admission. Gatekeeping by assessing options for home treatment for voluntary admissions and before compulsory admissions. It takes referrals from community mental health teams in Colchester and Tendring. It facilitates early discharges from Assessment units and psychiatric liaison teams based at the Colchester General Hospital. The team provides a responsive service, which is delivered in the community, and compatible with clinical needs and risks. Intensive Home treatment offered in the short term 1-5 weeks that is accessible 8am - midnight, 7 days a week with 1-3 contacts a day (including telephone support). You must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent or be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the AAC. About us

The Consultant Psychiatrist is a key clinical leader for the Team. You are expected to provide senior medical input and leadership to the Home First Team. The Consultant conducts psychiatric reviews of individual patients as well as leads the clinical team discussions, contributes to multidisciplinary assessments and management plans, and corresponds with referrers, colleagues, and other involved professionals to deliver safe, responsive, and patient-centered care. Clinical areas: Diagnosis Bio-psychosocial approach to treatment Evidence-based interventions Legal and MHA issues Boundary setting Clinical Leadership: Enabling/Encouraging other team members Available to the team both to individuals and the team as a whole Active team member, Attend regular reviews Work towards high team morale Strategic planning and development The post holder will work in accordance with the New Ways of Working initiative for Consultants, and attend regular team meetings such as MDT meetings and formulation meetings to discuss clinical issues with team members, care coordinators, inpatient doctors, and other statutory agencies as required for the care of patients. Work closely with other consultant colleagues to ensure that the patient journey is as smooth as possible. Provide clinical leadership and actively liaise with general practitioners, psychiatrists, and other hospital specialists, statutory and non-statutory agencies, whenever relevant to the care and treatment of patients. Be committed to a multidisciplinary approach to care. Use evidence-based interventions at all times. Offer an accurate diagnosis and timely interventions so that intensive treatment can be delivered to prevent chronicity and dependency on psychiatric services. Attend Mental Health Act assessments for relevant patients. Participate in the development and maintenance of care programmes for patients. Contribute to the collection of clinical information to ensure further service development and to enable audit. Person Specification

TRANSPORT

Holds and will use a valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative. Qualifications

MB BS or equivalent medical qualification. Registration with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register. Meets Royal College of Psychiatrists criteria for appointment to the post of Consultant. Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management. On the Specialist Register with qualifications General Adult. Postgraduate degree in psychiatry MRC Psych or equivalent. ELIGIBILITY

Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment. Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months. Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 6 months of appointment. Approved under S12. In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice. CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
