Role Summary: The duties and responsibilities of the post holder will include working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a high-quality Nuclear Medicine and General Radiographic service for a variety of paediatric presentations. Main duties of the job
The post holder will perform a wide range of duties associated with diagnostic imaging, Nuclear Medicine imaging, Bone Densitometry Imaging, and Main X-ray imaging. This will include the preparation and administration of radiopharmaceuticals and the acquisition and analysis of image and non-image patient data. The post holder will supervise trainees and students and will be accountable for their work. Follow departmental procedures and rotate between main x-ray (3 days per week) and Nuclear Medicine (2 days per week). Out of hours commitment for the main x-ray department. To perform a wide range of routine and non-routine radionuclide investigations, using a gamma camera/CT scanner to obtain high-quality diagnostic images. To perform bone densitometry imaging and all plain film imaging in the main x-ray department. To undertake routine and non-routine image processing and data analysis as required. Organise patient scheduling and Radiographer workload in the absence of the Lead Radiographers. Administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients by means of intravenous injection, orally, or as a gas. Provide patients and parents/carers with full explanations of investigations. Liaise with scientific, medical, nursing, and support staff regarding patient investigations. Undertake procedures related to contamination with radioactive material. Participate in the department’s radiation protection and quality assurance programmes. Assist with the development and review of protocols and procedures. Conform to relevant legislation governing Nuclear Medicine Technology and Bone Densitometry. Person specification
Education and training
BSc in Diagnostic Radiography or Diploma of the College of Radiographers. State registration with the health professions council. Knowledge of
Practices and procedures associated with radiopharmaceuticals for routine nuclear medicine investigations. Relevant anatomy, physiology, and paediatric pathologies. Providing student supervision and training. Current issues within the NHS. Practices required to manufacture/dispense radiopharmaceuticals. Basic principles of DEXA imaging focusing on paediatrics. Experience of
Multidisciplinary team working. Relevant and current CPD. Proven interest in Nuclear Medicine. Paediatric radiography. Nuclear Medicine. DEXA imaging in paediatrics.
