We operate from modern premises in Cullompton, a historic market town surrounded by beautiful Devon countryside, yet only 15 miles north of the vibrant city of Exeter. We have four branches in surrounding villages and care for over 18,500 patients. Our team meets together every day for a clinical meeting over a cuppa and have lunch together whenever we can out in our award-winning garden. Main duties of the job

The role is primarily to work within our SDS (Same Day Service) Team in providing a same day urgent treatment service and telephone triage. About us

The role is primarily to work within our SDS (Same Day Service) Team in providing a same day urgent treatment service and telephone triage. Clinical

To provide a holistic, autonomous, and clinical nursing service by attending to referrals and self-referrals of practice patients. Making an assessment of their physical, psychological and social needs, implementing an agreed management plan with patients including appropriate prescribing and referral.

Independent/Supplementary Prescribing

Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medications, side effects and interactions. Manage medicines including prescribing and administering medication and appliances for patients, as an Independent/Supplementary Prescriber, or within Patient Group Directions. To take responsibility, as a designated independent nurse prescriber, to prescribe medicines and appliances/dressings from the relevant national formulary for individual patients receiving care for a condition for which the nurse has clinical responsibility. To maintain competency to practice safely as an independent/supplementary prescriber. To comply with all legal and NMC requirements of prescribing practice.

Research

To ensure Clinical Nursing activities are evidence based. When requested, to undertake an active role in carrying out research studies, independently or in conjunction with other health professionals.

Management

To ensure Nursing activities remain within broad policy, objectives of the organisation and a major role in developing policy objectives. To report, document, and evaluate the work of the Nurse Practitioner and to demonstrate its importance both to patients and the Practice.

Professional

To provide a high standard of Professional conduct and Nursing care at all times in accordance with the NMC. To participate in teaching Nurse Learners, medical students and other students as appropriate who visit. To attend relevant meetings, courses, seminars and keep professionally up-to-date. Any other duties considered relevant to the Post.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Registered Nurse Experience

At least 2 years recent experience of nursing in a Primary Care environment Minimum 5 years post-registration Management of minor illnesses or ailments Use of SystmOne clinical system Skills

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) Clear, polite telephone manner Competent in the use of Office and Outlook Effective time management (Planning & Organising) Ability to work as a team member and autonomously Good interpersonal skills Problem solving and analytical skills Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure SystmOne Experience with audit and able to lead audit programmes Experience with clinical risk management Personal Qualities
