We have 2 exciting opportunities for band 6 Ophthalmic nurses commencing as a band 5 until training has been completed. All training will be provided in-house.

This is a very varied and interesting vacancy. Full-time hours are between 08:00 and 19:00; weekends and bank holidays are 08:30-14:00 running an emergency service only.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who can display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Main duties of the job

Applicants will be required to work in various areas of the department, making the post interesting and varied.

This is a very busy, friendly unit with all bandings working together and assisting each other.

Job responsibilities

Analyse and make knowledge-based decisions in relation to acute ophthalmic and other patient-related conditions and situations, subsequently taking appropriate remedial action. Co-ordinate patient journey across divisions and organisational boundaries. Assess and diagnose the cause of a patient's problem, thereafter providing the appropriate nursing intervention and care, evaluating and discharging. Detailed information giving is imperative with verbal information being reinforced by way of patient information leaflets specifically relating to the patient problem. Identify methods of self-help along with rationale for any treatment and its administration. Contact telephone numbers are detailed on these leaflets. All aspects of health promotion, health education, and continuity of care are vital components within our nursing care programme. Empower patient choice and involvement, initiating appropriate action.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Demonstrable experience within a similar role. Computer literate. Proven evidence of recent Continuing Professional Development.

Desirable

Communication/Counselling Skills Training. Venepuncture. Cannulation.

Qualifications

Essential

NMC Registered. Leadership/management training. Post registration ophthalmic specialist qualification.

Desirable

Demonstrable experience managing teams.

Aptitude & Abilities

Essential

Advanced skills, written and verbal, with the ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity, and effectiveness at all levels. Ability to prioritise workload, instruct and direct others. Organisational skills and able to work as a team leader.

Desirable

Demonstrate management abilities.
