The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals define a nurse specialist as a qualified nurse where the primary purpose of the role is to provide guidance and support based on advanced level of knowledge to patients, carers, and health professionals concerning a specific condition. This is an exciting opportunity to join the quickly expanding TAVI team at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals. As a TAVI Specialist Nurse, you will be responsible for ensuring the patient's needs are met by delivering high quality, evidence-based care throughout the whole TAVI pathway. This role will give you the opportunity to practice autonomously and as part of a specialist TAVI team, to empower patients and make a difference. It requires excellent leadership and visibility and offers a great balance of clinical practice and coordinating. You will be a single point of contact for patients and referring centres from referral to discharge and follow up, helping to streamline the TAVI pathway and manage the overall service. You will have the opportunity to work as part of a large MDT over a multitude of wards and clinical areas and be an integral part of the TAVI service and training and education. The TAVI Nurse Specialist will act as a point of contact pre, intra and post TAVI procedure to ensure smooth running of the TAVI service. They will be expected to: Work as part of a team, alongside our Band 7 TAVI Nurse Specialist to deliver expert specialist care for the management of aortic stenosis Maintain high standards of nursing care, adhering to trust policies and national frameworks Act as a patient advocate, and ensure optimal patient management, demonstrating a sound knowledge of aortic stenosis Assist with MDT presentations and action outcomes promptly Care for patients in an in-patient and out-patient setting, showing good co-ordination and time management skills Display good leadership skills, including driving change and adaptability Recognise deterioration and be able to act accordingly Help co-ordinate safe admissions and discharges of patients coming in for TAVI procedure Provide clinical and educational support to ward teams and patients and their families Organise investigations prior to and post TAVI Data collection and input About us

Qualifications & Education

Registered nurse (appropriate to branch) Current NMC registration Diploma plus specialist qualifications / experience within specialist area; prepared to take degree level study. Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council standards for student supervision and assessment (formally Mentorship) if relevant to role. Current driving licence if relevant to role Degree in health related subject Knowledge & Experience

Some post registration experience within related specialist area of practice. Extended clinical practice underpinned by training supervision & assessment. Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project specific policy context. Has understanding / experience of adult / child safeguarding. Evidence of on-going continuous professional development. Research or audit experience. Evidence of contribution towards education and training programmes. Skills & Abilities

Effective report writing skills Able to work independently and as a member of a team. Effective organisation and time management skills Change management skills and involvement in project work. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
