We have exciting opportunities for nurses or midwives to work in centres across Oxford, Aylesbury, and Reading.

We are looking for nurses/midwives who can deliver safe and effective care of clients wanting to access consultation for unplanned pregnancy, surgical and medical abortions, contraception, and sexual health services for women.

You will need to be able to fulfil an integral role within our multidisciplinary team delivering a confidential abortion service. You will need to be motivated, enthusiastic, caring, and empathetic. Pro-choice is a must.

Main duties of the job

To deliver safe and effective care of patients from admission to discharge in accordance with Healthcare Commission Standards, NMC Guidelines for Professional Practice, and company policies and procedures.

Ensure the clients are aware of their options.

Undertake consultations including the discussion and confirmation of treatment options.

Discuss contraceptive options and provide/fit contraception in accordance with guidelines NUPAS policies.

Appropriately consent clients for treatment/procedures.

Provide and inform clients on STI Screening.

Identify safeguarding concerns.

Check details on client notes and alert Doctor/surgeon/anaesthetist to any significant conditions.

Ensure clients are informed about aftercare prior to discharge.

Provide confidential telephone advice for clients with post-operative problems following discharge.

Complete contemporaneous client records, consent, and registers.

This is a hybrid role with a combination of working in clinic and working from home providing telephone consultations. Working one in four Saturdays.

About us NUPAS attaches great importance to sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility. It is the responsibility of the post holder to minimise the NUPAS environmental impact wherever possible. This will include switching off lights, computers, monitors, and other non-essential equipment when not in use, helping to minimise business travel, reducing paper waste by minimising printing/copying, correct waste disposal, reducing water usage, reporting faults and heating/cooling concerns promptly.

The post holder will have a duty to ensure that the principles of patient, carer, and public involvement and engagement are adhered to in line with Section 11 of The Health and Social Care Act 2012 for Improving Patient Experience.

All staff are required to adhere to the principles of patient-centred care as detailed in the NICE Quality Standard for Patient Experience and to treat patients with dignity, kindness, compassion, courtesy, respect, understanding, and honesty.

The post holder will, in support of the NUPAS Values, ensure that everyone is treated as an individual and will acknowledge and value difference in order to treat everyone fairly.

Person Specification Qualifications

Current Nurse and/or Midwifery Council NMC registration as a Registered Nurse Sub part 1 of the NMC register Registered Midwife. Up to date knowledge and experience of working in a sexual health TOP or Gynaecological service.

Faculty of Reproductive Sexual Healthcare FSRH Letter of Competence in intrauterine techniques i.e. IUS and/or IDU fitter and Insertion and removal of Subdermal Implants. SDI Recognised qualification in Independent/Supplementary Prescribing. Ultrasound scanning experience in first and second stage trimester. If you are also qualified in ultrasound scanning, you will be eligible for an enhanced rate of pay to carry out scans.
