We are looking for a highly skilled and passionate Conservator and Restorer to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Senior Conservator and Restorer (Cultural Heritage), you will assist in the conservation and restoration of listed building interiors, artworks and decorative elements. You’ll play an essential role in preserving the rich history and heritage of our collections, working with a team of professionals to maintain high standards of care and quality. Duties and Responsibilities
Carry out repairs, cleaning and maintenance of art, artefacts, stonework, gilding and other decorative features within the building. Perform regular inspections and document the condition of artworks and artefacts, providing recommendations for further work. Work closely with the Senior Conservator and Restorer (Cultural Heritage), building services, external specialists and the events team to plan and carry out conservation projects. Participate in unique conservation projects, such as gilding, wood, stone and stained-glass restoration, alongside maintaining decorative elements like plaster ceilings and chandeliers. Ensure that all conservation work follows ethical guidelines and the best practices in the industry, adhering to health and safety standards. Keep up to date with the latest conservation techniques, methods and materials and apply this knowledge to your daily tasks. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including Historic England and English Heritage, to ensure the successful execution of conservation projects. What we are looking for
Masters in Conservation, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Significant, trackable background in conservation, particularly with a focus on heritage buildings, oil paintings, decorative work and fibrous plaster ceilings. Skills
Strong knowledge of traditional and modern conservation techniques. Expertise in art handling, framing, monument installation and gilding. Advanced skills in stone, marble and limestone conservation. Proficiency in condition reporting and documenting conservation activities. Experience with stone conservation, gilding, wood conservation and plaster restoration. A solid understanding of health and safety guidelines within conservation work. Flexibility and adaptability to work on a variety of materials and artefacts. Personal Traits
Ability to work at height and handle physical tasks associated with conservation work. Detail-oriented with a strong sense of ethics and integrity in conservation work. Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Good communication skills and a proactive attitude to problem-solving. ICE Group benefits include
