An exciting opportunity has opened up in our busy Obstetric Theatre Department. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with an interest in obstetrics to join our team.

The successful applicant needs to have excellent communication skills and work well within a multidisciplinary team.

Here you can develop specialist knowledge in obstetrics and competence in caring for patients in a busy elective and emergency department.

We cover a 24/7 emergency service and elective surgery weekdays.

As a member of the maternity theatre team, you will be able to perform the tasks of theatre scrub or/and recovery practitioner, supporting the surgeon and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Training and support will be available for areas that are unfamiliar.

You will maintain high standards of pre/peri and postoperative care.

You will be responsible for the safe use of theatre equipment and ensuring that all equipment at work areas is ready for use.

You will be responsible for your own continuing professional development.

This role requires active UK Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner.

Base Location: Poole Hospital and St Mary's Maternity Unit.

Main duties of the job

Work with the clinical team leaders to ensure the provision of high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives as part of a multidisciplinary team. Create and maintain legible and accurate records of care. Work with other disciplines and professions for the welfare of patients. Maintain, update and develop personal and professional knowledge. Ensure all care is provided in accordance with UHD NHS Foundation Trust Policies. Ensure compliance within the code of conduct with the professional body. Handle patients' valuables and property in accordance with hospital policy. Be responsible for promoting good and effective communications within the Department.

March 31st 2025 , when this role and base of work will relocate to Bournemouth site. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance/reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder's home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Registered practitioner either RN or Operating department practitioner with relevant qualification.

Desirable

Evidence of ability to educate in practice. Mentor/Clinical assessor course. Degree/masters in relevant profession.

Experience

Essential

Ability to collaborate constructively with internal and external partners to create the conditions for successful partnership working.

Desirable

Minimum of 1 year in related specialty. Experience of delegating workload. Experience of supervising staff.

Technical Skills Competencies

Essential

Good organisational skills. Ability to apply frequent concentration. Excellent interpersonal skills, including proven listening and communication skills. Flexibility/adaptability to be able to work shifts to cover service needs, able to work 24 hours shift pattern. Takes pride in their work and has the ability to complete projects to a satisfactory conclusion. Strong sense of commitment to openness, honesty and integrity in undertaking the role. Clear understanding of audit purpose.

Desirable

A strong sense of personal and team accountability coupled to a clear understanding of the boundaries around delegated authority, responsibility and accountability. Demonstrable ability to work in a busy environment and cope when the service is under pressure. Knowledge of clinical governance agenda.

Knowledge

Relevant theatre and/or recovery experience.

Desirable

Anaesthetic practice experience.

Flexible in their attitudes and behaviours to support team working and delivery of objectives. Appraisal skills or willingness to learn.
