The mental health occupational therapist is a core part of the community mental health team who aim to improve health and wellbeing through enabling participation in occupation (the activities, roles and routines of everyday life). Occupational therapists recognise that engagement in meaningful occupation can promote good mental health, assist recovery and help people achieve personalised outcomes such as being able to care for themselves, engage in work and leisure activities, and participate within the community.

Occupational Therapist - Band 6 Part-time (30hrs per week)

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work within the community mental health service. They will have responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of the service to individual clients and their families and carers via a range of evidence-based interventions. They will be expected to provide cover for peers across the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust, planned or unplanned as required. The post holder will ensure that all organisational systems and processes are adhered to. They will manage and organise competing and conflicting priorities and manage change in complex situations. The post holder will be a resource of clinical knowledge and competence in the service area contributing to staff and service development. The post holder will be required to undertake assessments and to provide evidence-based clinical interventions to maximise recovery and independence as required by service needs or complex presentations.

To ensure Occupational Therapy makes a significant and specialist contribution in the community mental health service. Assess service users using a variety of assessment tools, specialised observational and communication skills. To provide a learning environment for staff and students.

Qualifications

Essential

Current unrestricted registration with HCPC. Specialist knowledge across a range of procedures and theory.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Ability to demonstrate and apply understanding of Equal Opportunities. Ability to demonstrate and apply understanding of confidentiality. Ability to demonstrate and apply understanding of safety issues. Ability to demonstrate and apply problem-solving skills to a variety of situations. Effective organisational and delegation skills.

Experience

Essential

Substantial experience in a mental health setting. Experience of using recovery-focused intervention. Developed specialist clinical knowledge gained within a similar environment over a considerable period of time.
