We are seeking a creative, adaptable and innovative Mental Health Occupational Therapist to join our service within Community Mental Health transformation in Newham. This role is based in our Community Integrated Mental Health Services (CIMHS) and is offered at 30 hours part time. The ideal candidate will have a real interest in transforming community mental health services, passionate about exploring new ways of working, beyond traditional models. It is imperative to have a "working alongside" and not a "doing to" mentality. In addition to direct clinical work, you will be committed to working with communities, recognizing strengths and capacities, in partnership with our community leaders and organizations across the diverse population of Newham. You will also be part of the wider Occupational Therapy service and have support from other Lead Practitioners and close working with the MDT including Peer Support Workers and Community Connectors. This role demands flexible working across community sites in Newham and the ability to travel across the borough. Interviews will be in person and include a presentation and/or discussion. Main Duties of the Job

To establish, build and optimize working relationships within community mental health transformation including the Community Integrated Mental Health Service (CIMHS), Primary care networks, secondary care, the voluntary sector and community partners. To support the ongoing development of the Occupational Therapy (OT) service within Community Mental Health transformation, particularly how to optimize the value of OT, alongside the Directorate Lead for OT. To provide Occupational Therapy input to service users accessing the CIMHS teams, especially where needs are complex and where multiple factors impact on occupational performance. To contribute to case formulations within the Mental Health team, incorporating experience and knowledge as a dual-trained professional in both physical and mental health. About Us

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Occupational Therapy Degree / Diploma HCPC registration (Occupational Therapist) Practice placement training Relevant CPD and role development activities Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapy Experience

Experience of community mental health occupational therapy, or equivalent relevant experience Experience of working as part of a Multi-disciplinary team Experience of staff supervision Evidence of Service Development activities Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of applied social, health and medical sciences including psychology, anatomy, physiology and sociology Knowledge of how mental health difficulties impact upon occupational functioning and performance. Knowledge of current National legislation, policies and guidelines relevant to adult community mental health and their application Specialist clinical skills to carry out OT interventions: therapeutic and activity based interventions; remedial training and cognitive-behavioral interventions and psychosocial and psycho-educational interventions To have developed interpersonal skills enabling therapeutic alliances to be developed and maintained with clients who have complex needs. Ability to manage a complex clinical caseload Ability to assess and manage verbal aggression and risk of physical aggression in inpatient and community settings, reducing risks to those involved Disclosure and Barring Service Check
