We are currently recruiting an Experienced Occupational Therapist - Peripatetic to cover the area of Staffordshire, including Stafford, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Cannock, Lichfield, Tamworth, etc. Based from home, the post holder will have responsibility for the assessment of people with a disability and provide the appropriate recommendations to assist in the statutory obligations under current legislation. This may include advice, provision of equipment, adaptations to the home, and/or referral to other agencies, and possibly assessment for Blue Badge. The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the management of a caseload which may include the more vulnerable service users or those with complex needs. The Occupational Therapist will work on specific contracts with Local Authorities, which have been outsourced by our client, and will be prepared to undertake reasonable travel across the country dependent upon the needs of the contract and the business. The post holder will: Complete face-to-face assessments to assess both adults' and children's needs in accordance with current legislation and anti-discriminatory practice, promoting self-directed support and ensuring demonstrable outcomes. Undertake/coordinate risk assessments (manual handling) as required and be skilled in carrying out specialist assessments and interventions including risk assessments, Single Handed Care assessments, Reablement assessments, Paediatric assessments, and assessments in relation to the provision of equipment and adaptations under the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 and Care Act 2014. Discuss with people the outcomes of their assessment, identifying the choices and options to meet their needs and maximize their independence, always ensuring that value for money is achieved. Plan an agreed programme of therapeutic intervention with agreed goals and ensure that the plan is carried through. Work in conjunction with service users, carers, other professionals, and agencies to coordinate and implement agreed service provision. Provide equipment to assist with daily living and be proficient in the instruction and demonstration of equipment to aid daily living to service users and carers to enable them to achieve maximum functional independence. Assist people in developing their daily living skills to enable them to attain maximum independence and evaluate the outcomes of any interventions, advising service users, carers, and other professionals on disability issues. Organize any necessary property adaptations with the appropriate involvement of other agencies and recommend, design, and monitor the process for the provision of adaptations. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of medical conditions and treatment, disability issues, legislation, and departmental policies and practices, and liaise with colleagues and managers regarding modifications in practice that may be required as a result. Maintain detailed and accurate case records and provide written reports related to people's services and/or carers' needs when appropriate. Attend and participate in case discussions and conferences as required. Keep up to date with legislative changes and best practices in the field of Occupational Therapy. Participate in regular supervision and consultation with the Line Manager and ensure that the Line Manager is made aware of all issues of major importance or concern (in the absence of the Line Manager this should be another relevant manager). Be able to work autonomously and manage their own caseloads to a high standard of expertise. Quality and Service User Safety: Promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. Be compliant with NICE guidance and other statutory/best practice guidelines. Report any incidents of harm or near misses in line with the County Council's incident reporting policy as appropriate, ensuring appropriate actions are taken to reduce the risk of reoccurrence. Contribute to the identification, management, and reduction of risk in the area of responsibility. Ensure day-to-day practice reflects the highest standards of governance, clinical effectiveness, safety, and service user experience. Ensure monitoring of quality and compliance with standards is demonstrable within your clinical practice.
