The Inpatient Rehabilitation team are looking for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join their MDT to undertake advanced assessments and treatment of patients.These patients often have complex and / or chronic presentations. It will be your duty to ensure that the individuals full potential and functional independence is developed or maintained. You will work as an autonomous practitioner to undertake a significant specialist clinical caseload, working without direct supervision but access to a Team Lead OT is available if required and clinical work is not routinely evaluated. Main duties of the job

Some of the main responsibilities of this role include the following: To communicate effectively with all disciplines involved in a patients care, both those from within the organisation and those outside to ensure effective multidisciplinary working. This will include discussion of patient care, patient progress and involvement in discharge planning. To achieve and maintain a high standard of clinical intervention and professional development using evidence-based practice CPD and appraisal. To manage patients who may be occasionally aggressive or confused. To be able to manage potentially stressful, upsetting, or emotional situations in an empathetic manner. To undertake comprehensive assessments of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations/multipathologies. To understand the underlying cause of difficulties with clients who have specific needs and utilise strategies for managing challenging behaviors and communication with supervision. About us

This will include discussion of patient care, patient progress and involvementin discharge planning.To be able to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers andother staff including imparting unwelcome news relating to their rehabilitation potentialand gaining consent for treatment.To communicate any changes in care plan or treatment approach to other teammembers as necessary to ensure consistency of approach and enhance effectivetreatment.To ensure timely and effective communication with the service manager, Team Leadsand senior staff on all professional matters.To maintain accurate records and write comprehensive reports in line with the Collegeof Occupational Therapists professional standards, local organisational and servicestandards and policies to meet legal requirements.To attend relevant wards rounds, meetings and case conferences as appropriate inorder to ensure appropriate management and effective and timely discharge ofpatients.To attend staff meetings and actively participate ensuring understanding of informationimparted.To participate in service related and group meetings where appropriate, planning,organising, chairing or minute taking when required.To maintain up to date and timely clinical records in accordance with service andprofessional standards and to access and update client information as required forstatistical analysis.To record statistical data relating to patient contact on a weekly basis.To assess patients understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid consent and havethe capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity toconsent to treatment.To evaluate, adopt or adapt communication methods as appropriate to educational,social background or identified barriers, e.g. language preference, language disorder,sensory impairment, cognitive or emotional barriers cultural or contextual differences,communication skills of persuasion, motivation and clarity of explanation.To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicateeffectively with patients in order to progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes.This may include patients who will have difficulties in understanding or communicating,e.g. patients who may be deaf, blind, or be unable to accept diagnosis or presentingcondition or who have cognitive and behavioural problems. Experience

Clinical experience with a wide range of client groups including any of the following: - rehabilitation, hospital, community, elderly, neurology, orthopaedics, Qualifications

Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy Disclosure and Barring Service Check
