A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full-time Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our team at the Step Forward Centre, a rehab ward for adults aged 18+ who require some additional support to build important life skills and a level of independence as part of their recovery journey.

As an occupational therapy assistant, you will assist in the assessments of functional ability, deliver individualised treatment plans and support recovery and transition from hospital to home. You will work collaboratively with the wider MDT both on the ward and in the community. In addition, you will be involved in the service development at the unit.

We are seeking an innovative individual, able to work collaboratively with service users and staff, and integrate well into the multidisciplinary team on the ward.

Main duties of the job

Work independently in specific areas as directed by the senior practitioner once competent. Organise own day to day tasks, exercising judgement and referring to senior staff issues outside own scope of practice.

Undertake specific specialist delegated tasks that are occupational therapy focused and are in line with assessed needs.

Contribute to assessments under supervision and direction of the Senior Practitioner (Occupational Therapist).

Utilise specialist standardised observational tools as appropriate and under supervision.

Plan and implement treatment interventions in partnership with the Senior or Clinical Practitioner, patients and carers in consultation with colleagues.

Monitor and evaluate the outcomes of interventions in partnership with the Senior Practitioner or Clinical Practitioner.

Take account of the particular communication needs of individuals and groups in order to overcome communication barriers.

Provide advice and direction regarding occupational therapy related issues to individuals and groups.

Facilitate links with local statutory and voluntary organisations to increase knowledge of resources available in the community.

Person Specification Qualifications

NVQ III in care; QCF diploma level 111 or equivalent.

Experience

Experience of working in Adult Mental Health or Rehabilitation services.

Experience of trauma informed care.

Experience of facilitating groups.

Knowledge

Knowledge and experience of managing risk.

Knowledge of mental health conditions.
