Swansea Bay University Health Board currently has a Band 3 vacancy for an Occupational Therapy Technician in the Stroke Rehab, Neath Port Talbot Hospital.

The post will allow the successful applicant the opportunity to work collaboratively within an integrated multi-disciplinary team. The role will involve working under the occupational therapists' guidance to implement intervention programmes with service users within the service area. You will provide goal directed intervention and rehabilitation to patients in the setting.

You will be required to work closely with MDT colleagues and contribute to the development of a high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy service. You will have an opportunity to help shape and promote the service, providing you with a unique opportunity to engage in service development and change.

You will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, the contract hours include a 7-day shift pattern, with extended working hours covering 365 days of the year.

Main duties of the job

To be a fully engaged member of the Occupational Therapy Team providing a service within a defined area, supporting the therapists with clients who may have complex needs in a range of settings including hospital community, patients' homes, schools, and outpatient settings. To undertake intervention programmes with individual clients or groups, this may involve fitting and instruction on the use of adaptive equipment, the supervision of adaptive daily living skills, and leading therapeutic groups. Maintain clinical records and report accurately to others. Carry out administrative duties in relation to clinical, service, and departmental needs. To participate in CPD and develop skills and knowledge through participation in developmental activities including completion of the Diploma of Occupational Therapy Support.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualification Essential

Quality Credit Framework qualification at level 3 eg NVQ or OCN related to Health & Social Care or prepared to work towards. Documented evidence of participation in training activities.

Experience & Knowledge Essential

Understanding of the role of occupational therapy. Relevant experience working within health, social or teaching setting. Awareness of Occupational Therapy equipment e.g. toilet equipment, manual handling equipment.

Skills & Abilities Essential

Ability to work single-handedly with individuals and/or groups. Effective written and oral communication skills. To carry out home visits, single-handedly, to client's homes to deliver and fit equipment as directed. Awareness of team dynamics and work effectively as part of a team.
